is it possible to view 2 data sources at the same time?

Unfortunately for performance reason it's not possible. It's already a challenge to load one data source when it has more than two thousand entries I just can imagine how we could do that with two data source opened at the same time.

can i use the same security groups for 2 data sources?

say i have a security group and i want to apply it for folders that resides on 2 different data sources, without having to recreate that security group again
i'm talking about an active directory based users with rdm based groups

Instead you should create one data source and use 2 repositories:

RDM 13.1 will support the quick switch between repositories.

Do you mean open 2 repositories at the same time or use the same users and security for both repositories? Unfortunately it will not be possible to have 2 repositories opened at the same time but switching from one to another should be simple.
