Can't use keyboard shortcuts when highlighting an active session

Can't use keyboard shortcuts when highlighting an active session

avatar

I was trying to use the Ctrl+D command co duplicate a session. What I noticed is that if I have the Navigation pane Pinned open, I can click an active session from the list, press Ctrl+D and it opens the Duplicate Session window like normal.

However, I always keep my Nav pane unpinned to gain more screen space for open sessions. If I have the Navigation pane UnPinned and I click the Navigation button to pop it out, and then go through the same steps as above, when I press Ctrl+D, it sends the Ctrl+D command to the active session instead of keeping it within RDM. If the Nav pane is opened up, any keys I press should stay within RDM and not pass through to the session running behind the Nav pane.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

Hello,

What type of session are you running? Is it an RDP session?

Yes, just standard RDP sessions.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

Could you please tell me if you have under Local Resources in the settings of your RDP session the option for Keyboard set for the local computer or the remote computer?

Hello,

Could you also try at the bottom-right of RDM to enable/disable the keyboard hook to see if it helps?

We have all the Keyboard things set to Remote Computer because when I'm just working in the remote session, I want the keyboard command sto go there. However, when I click the Navigation pane to bring it out, it is showing on top of the remote session so RDM should be capturing those commands and running them internally instead of sending them through to the remote session.

If the Navigation pane is pinned so it's always in view, Ctrl+D works just fine, even when I have an active session highlighted.
If the Navigation pane is not pinned, but I've clicked the buttom to show it, Ctrl+D gets passed through to the remote session even though the Navigation pane is on top of it.

UPDATE:
OK, as I'm typing this I found something. When I click the Navigation pane to bring it out, and then click on a session the is active, it is giving focus to the session as the screen refreshes to show whatever is on the screen. If I then click the session name in the navigation pane a second time, it then takes the focus back to RDM and then Ctrl+D works.

So when the session window changes from one remote session to another, or from the generic Action screen to the active session, the navigation pane is losing focus and giving it to the session even though the navigation pane is still showing.

If RDM could NOT give the focus to the session window when it brings something up on the screen, I think that would fix it.

I've also noticed this when I double click to open a session and then click off onto another program maybe to type an email. When the session opens, RDM takes the focus back even though I had clicked off it to go to another program to do other work.

Hope that makes sense but it's Friday and I'm heading out.

Hello,

I'm not sure if it will help but could you please try disabling Auto focus dashboard in File -> Options -> User Interface -> Dashboard?

Tried that but it didn't seem to have any effect.

Hello,

I seem to be to only one able to reproduce the issue in the QA team. 2 of us are experiencing different result from the same test with the same config. I'm starting to think this issue is OS related, but enough theory.

One thing that helped me get those shortcut working is desactivating the option *Auto focus tab on item select* found in file > options > User interface > Tree view. It worked for me but then it didin't for another of my colleague.

1 workaround trick that did it 100% though was paying attention to the RDM focus by looking at the application name over the ribbon. If the name turns white, shortcuts will work properly when items in the tree view are selected, if it is gray it won't work at all.

Selecting a session in the unpined navigation pane then clicking on the application name then sending shortcut key did the trick for me.

Realised too that the second I unpin the navigation pane, whatever session I am selecting the application name stays gray, almost as if the navigation pane is not part of the application anymore.

Thanks for reporting this, we are still currently investigating and a ticket has been sent to the engineering team to review this.

Best regards,

Alexandre Roy

I didn't notice any difference in the white/gray color. The title was always White for me until after a pop up window opened. Then it turned gray.

However, turning off the Auto Focus Tab option did seem to work for me. If I clicked on an item that wasn't active and clicked back to one that was, it did NOT bring up the RDP session into the main window so the shortcuts then applied to RDM itself. I guess I'll just use it that way for now and see how it goes.

It's not a huge deal but was just one of those annoying little things I thought I'd mention.
