Hiding Groups / Folders completely

Hiding Groups / Folders completely

avatar

Me and one other person share the online DB. I have a folder I created on the shared DB that I don't want him or any other using being able to see. I have added a security group and only placed myself in it, then made sure to put the folder in that group. It makes no difference though, he can still see it and access it.. So how can I accomplish what I need, and what is the point of the security group if nothing changed...

Hello,

Could you please go in File -> My Data Source Information and verify which user is being used to login?

It might be possible that the credentials used have admin privileges.

Here's a blog entry that might help;

I am definitely logged in as myself, and my coworker is confirmed as himself. Also, I am for sure a part of the security group and so is that folder, and he is not.

I'm not trying to hide the passwords specifically from him. I want to hide the whole folder.

Hello,

Could you please attach a screenshot of your File -> My Data Source Information as well as one from your colleague so we can have a look at them? You can also click on the blue envelope to have it sent to us if you prefer.

Also, in the grey bar under the data source selection in the Navigation Pane, could you please do a right-click and select Column Chooser?

In the Column window, please select Security Group. This will display the security groups you have applied directly in the navigation pane;

After, please expand your tree view structure and attach a screenshot so we can see where you have applied them.

Best regards,

I sent you a message. I do not see a blue envelope anywhere else on this page.

Hello,

I do not see anything in my personal inbox.

Could you please send us the details instead to support@devolutions.net ?

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

I see that your user is an Administrator.

It is normal that whatever security you put in place, he will still be able to see it.

If you create a standard user and make him part of that security group, he will not be able to see it.

Well, see we both are admins. In fact that is my boss. But some items we'd like to keep to ourselves.

Hello,

You and your colleague would need to use the User Specific Settings feature to override the credentials of the sessions to use your/his own credentials.https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/edit_userspecificsettings.htm

This feature can be used with the Private Vault if you want to save your credentials directly in there to avoid entering them several times.
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/view_navigation_privatevault.htm

The Private Vault feature for our Devolutions Online Database product requires some configuration before using it. Please have a look here;

Mark,
Thank you for your time so far but that is not a solution. It's not a matter of him seeing my credentials, I didn't him to see that folder at all. It's unaesthetic for him. Just as if he adds his own it would be unaesthetic for me.
The folder in question is my home network, devices, and server. Along with personal websites that are work related that he doesn't need.
And I'm sure at one point he will add his own.
The only solution so far was to remove both of our users from admin role and to create a 3rd unused user as admin/owner. But we both need Admin privilege and just wasted a 3rd user for this.

Hello,

My apologies. I should have explained the feature more in detail.

The Private Vault feature is meant to keep entries personal to users in the database.

By using this feature, you and your colleague will be able to store entries there and they will be unique to yourselves.

You won't be able to see his entries and he won't be able to see yours.

This way, you can store and create whatever entry you wish it to remain available only to yourself.

Please let me know if you need further clarification.

Best regards,
