Always ask password

avatar

Hi guys,

our security department had an interesting request regarding the Remote Desktop Manager that i wasn't able to answer. Is it possible to disable the disabling of "Always ask Password" in the datasource settings? The source for this request are security concerns that admin users take the easy way and use auto-login with this feature instead of typing in their credentials every time they start RDM. I attached a screenshot where you can see the option i mean.

I appreciate any hint you can give me regarding this, searching in the help for credentials and similar proved to be a long task :-)

Best regards,
Hermann

Hello,

If I understand correctly, you don't want your users to have the possibility to disable the "Always ask for password" option in the data source.

If that is the case, as an administrator, simply go in the Administration tab -> Data Source Settings -> Password Policy and check the "Disable password saving for data source access" that way the option ''Always ask for password'' will be grayed out for the users.

Hope it helped

Best regards,

Thanks! Note that i asked this question by email to support and the answered differently...

Question:

Is it possible to disable the option for ‘save password’ when logging in to the databasource? (For example, by creating a custom installer / scripted installation)
Reason: We will use the tool on a shared Virtual Machine which a shared login, however when a user starts RDM, it must do so with his personal account. Therefor we must prevent that a certain users sets this ‘keeps password’ and runs RDM on that user. (an alternative could be that we script something when the machine get’s a shutdown or reboot, this value is unset each time in the config / registry / … where it’s get saved, so knowing where this value is set is also fine)
Answer:
It’s not possible to disable that option. Using Integrated Security, you will avoid this issue, however, using this feature doesn’t seems to be an option for you since you share the same account to connect on the computer. If you are using one type of data source, maybe you can try to disable the File -> Data Sources menu via GPO - https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/how_to_modify_the_group_policy.htm
