Text files content missing

avatar

Hi.

Since upgrading to the latest version of RDM, anything that I have stored in a text file is blank. The file is still there and I can click on it, it just opens up with nothing.

I am using RDM Enterprise (licensed) 13.0.5.0 and using a XML file for storage. The file type is Text Editor. All files of this type are that way. I searched the forum for a similar issue but was unable to find one.

Any direction is appreciated.

Hello,

Could you post some print screens of what you see, this may help to found a solution.

Jeff,

Here is a screenshot.

Update

As I was gathering screenshots for you I looked under the more tab in the description and the text is there. Any reason why it would have changed from the General tab to the More tab under description?

Update 2

Never-mind. That was the only one that was that way. The others are still showing nothing, even under the more tab.

Hello,

This is strange.

Do you remember which version you we´re using before? I would like to try to reproduce your issue.

Hi Jeff.

I want to say this started a couple of versions ago, but I'm just now getting around to opening a case on it. I usually upgrade when I get the notification upon program launch. I want to say it was 13.0.3 or 13.0.4. For sure in the 13.0 train.

With that said, I used to be on the server edition through work. I started working from home, and just decided to use an XML copy locally since I didnt need to share. I exported all of the entries from my work version to my XML version, and they were all there and working. When I updated to one of the versions above I noticed this behavior. With that said I have upgraded several times after that move and they were working. It was just recently within the last couple of versions that this happened. I cant imagine that if the export and import into the XML was successful, and they were showing up before upgrade, that would be the cause. However, I wanted to throw that out there in case that has something to do with it. Even on the work version we kept the clients version up to date as updates came out.

Hello,

How did you performed the export/import of sessions? If you have export/import the data using the .rdm format, indeed, the documents sessions will be imported, but the sessions will be empty. The documents inside the sessions (ex: word document, excel document, text document) will not be imported.

At work, on the other datasource, do you see the text documents as expected?

I did in fact use the .rdm file to export all sessions. I don't believe that I have access to the database anymore to double check. The database for RDM has been decommissioned and I chose to keep using it as an individual. In what case would everything have exported/imported over?. Im certain that I checked to export everything, and that dosent account for the data being there before the upgrade of the client. All of the data was showing up when it was initially imported in. It was only after an upgrade that it stopped working.

Hello,

I don't know what type of data source you we're using before, but the only way to transfer everything is to do a backup/restore of the entire database.

As example, for XML or SQLite, you would need to copy the entire connections.xml or connections.db file.

Do you have backups of your data source or a copy of the original import? If yes, you can try to restore a backup or reimport the sessions in a new local data source to see if everything is available.

Thanks Jeff. I guess that I will just have to deal with it. I don't have access anymore to the original database files.I thought a full .rdm backup would get everything.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback and sorry about this situation.

Jeff,

Where would I find these files on the server? I think I can access a backup VM of the server the database was on. It was a SQL 2014 database. Actually I was able to get the files but it shows that Your devolutions server subscription has expired. Is there not a way to log in long enough to just grab what I need?

Thanks!

I just requested a trial license for the server and its the same way on there. Oh well. I will keep better track of this in the future. Thanks again for all of your help Jeff.
