Embedded Browser Tab Woes

I have web pages that rely on cookies to save settings. I would like to use these pages in embedded browser tabs in RDM
I generally prefer to use Chrome, but RDM doesn't seem to keep Chrome cookies after a session is closed. It's like opening in an incognito window every time even though I don't check that option. So I have to reset my page settings every time I re-open the session and just keep the tab open as long as possible to avoid resetting my settings every time.

Firefox seemed to work ok, but I made the mistake of letting it upgrade to the new "Firefox Quantum" (version 57) and now RDM won't open Firefox in embedded tabs It just tries to load forever. I have tried downgrading to the previous version of Firefox but it didn't seem to help. I've completely removed and reinstalled both RDM and Firefox and still just can't get it to open within RDM.

Out of desperation I even tried an embedded IE tab, but, while it would load the page the button to save the page settings won't even respond to clicks with the IE tab so I can't even tell if it's going to retain the cookies because I can't save my settings.

If I can get Chrome or Firefox to keep my cookies between sessions, I will be happy. Although I also miss some options in the Chrome right click menu like being able to copy a link address or open a link in a new tab, but those are smaller concerns

Hello,

Well, turns out that I found the way to preserve state for Embedded Chrome just yesterday. It should be in a coming build.

Ticking the incognito option will obviously disable that and even clear the cache as soon as the tab is closed.

Best regards,

Maurice

Hi,
Thanks, for replying so fast.
That's good to hear. I don't suppose you know when to expect that build to be released?
I'd be interested to know as well if there are known issues with the latest version of Firefox or if the firefox problems is just isolated to me.

Thanks again.

Hello,

For embedded tabs, we do not use the browser but rather a library. One should not impact the other. I will ask someone from support to take over for troubleshooting.

As for the build, no idea. We have just released our yearly major version and have yet to enable auto-update for the public. That would probably be done before we deploy a new build.

Best regards,

Maurice

Not too surprised that there is no estimate for the build release. I know how these things work, and I already know that I had just installed a big update. I'm excited to hear that preserving Chrome cookies is something you are working on though, so I look forward to seeing it come out in production.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Our engineering department will look at updating the engine that runs Firefox Embedded.

Unfortunately, I do not know when a release will be available with this change.

Hello again,

In the meantime, could you please try switching to MozNET (R19.8) to see if it helps?

I tried changing the Engine. It doesn't help.

Hello,

As of now, we are waiting for a new build with the updated engine for Firefox.

Sorry for the delay.

Just wanted to comment that I saw that the caching in Chrome works now with the last update. Really impressed with how fast you guys were able to get that implemented. Thanks for the help.
