Default monitor setting not applying

Default monitor setting not applying

avatar

I have a 15' laptop and two 23' monitors of exactly the same model and brand. The primary display is set to my laptop's screen.

I normally run RDM on either of the two 23' monitors and I have the "Default monitor" setting set to "Current monitor".

All my RDP sessions use "smart sizing"

The problem is that every time I run RDM, it launches on my laptop's screen. I want RDM to always open on my 23' monitor (either of them). If I have RDM running on a 23' screen and I undock one of the session tabs, it will always undock to my laptop's screen. I have to drag to my other 23' screen every time and it gets annoying.

2nd issue:

I have RDM configured to open about 8 RDP sessions via Playlist Management. Because RDM always opens on my laptop's screen, the 8 sessions would size the display to fit on my laptop's. If I move RDM to my 23' monitor, the sessions would still look the same size and would not adjust to scale/fit on my larger screen. I would have to reconnect the sessions so they size correctly.

Now, let's say I open RDM on a 23' monitor and all my sessions are sized correctly to fit on the 23' display. Because I use multi-tab rows in RDM, this means if I have 20~30 sessions opened, the size will look smaller and smaller (as the multi-tab rows will eat up the display). See highlighted yellow area in screenshot below.

Because of this, I would undock my tab and bring it to my other 23' monitor. I would then have to right click on the undocked tab and reconnect, so the display will re-adjust to fit the full size correctly. Is there a better way to do this?

I've tried using Smart Reconnect to fix this issue. While it works, it's very annoying. If I undock a session and move it to a 23' monitor, it will scale to e.g. 1920x1080. That is fine. But if I then move the undocked tab (already adjusted) to a different 23' monitor, the resolution is the same, however it will automatically reconnect again and there will always be a 1~2 second delay. I only want it to reconnect when there is an actual change in the resolution. Moving the same session from one monitor to another of the same size, should not require a reconnect.

Hello,

For your issues;

1. Have you selected Default for the Monitor option in the properties of the RDP session?

If this works and need to change it to multiple sessions in bulk, you can use our Batch Edit feature;
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/edit_batch.htm

2. The behavior of the Smart Reconnect is as designed. It reconnects the session to apply the best view possible.

1. I've configured my Default Session Settings to use Embedded. Same with the RDP entries I've created, they all use Embedded. This is what I use 99% of the time. I only want to undock a session when I need to. Would I need to adjust the properties of the undocked session every time? Or is it possible to configure the default settings of an undocked session (whether it's Quick Connect or an RDP entry) to be on one monitor?

Furthermore, how can I force RDM to launch on a specific monitor? RDM starts on my laptop's 15' screen and therefore my Playlist also opens to fit on the 15' window, which I don't want. I just want RDM and all my sessions in the playlist to fit on my 23' screen.

2. This does not make sense. As I've mentioned, I have 2 of the exact same 23' monitors. When the session is already adjusted to fit the best view possible on one 23' monitor, why would it reconnect and do the same thing if I move the session window to the other 23' monitor? It's the same resolution, same display.
