Mixed display resolution and scaling

Mixed display resolution and scaling

avatar

I have a 4k Laptop hooked up to two 1080p external displays.

My issue has been everything is too small when I connect through any of my servers. When I use the built in Windows RDP client it seems to work OK, on the 4k display it does not scale it up, so it keeps it as a fairly small window. But when I bring it over to one of the 1080P displays it is normal.

In RDM it seems to scale correctly when I switch, but the only way I have been able to make it work is when I disable scaling through the Windows Compatibility tab on the application. If I disable that, the display always looks like it is using the 4k connection resolution, even on the 1080p displays.

All of this said, what I would like is to always connect at 1080p no matter which display I am using and if I am using the 4k display have the display stretch. I am not sure if that is possible or not. The only time I really use RDM on the 4K display is when I am working out of the office. I wanted the higher resolution screen so I could have multiple sessions going and not have to worry about the typical small laptop resolution.

I am not sure if any of that makes sense or not, maybe I need to explain it better. I do love the product, I have used it for years and I would like to move my department to use it and purchase it for all of us.

Thank you...

Hello,

Could you try to check/uncheck the Disable display scaling on high DPI settings option in File -> Options -> User Interface?

Thank you!

That works exactly the way I was expecting it to when I disabled the High DPI settings. I tried that before, maybe I did no restart.

One other question. To get it to work correctly, I need to change my settings for my RDP sessions to Display > Remote Desktop size > Current Work area and Screen Sizing mode > Smart sizing.

Is there any way to change that for all of my entries?

Hello,

Yes indeed, you can do so if you select all the sessions you would like to modify, make a right-click -> Edit -> Batch Edit -> Edit Sessions (Session type Settings)

I do not see that options when I select multiple connections. When I select edit I only get create shortcut, edit and rename are grayed out.

Hello,

The batch edit is an Enterprise version feature, are you using the Free version?

Yes I am. I think I figured it out using the default settings.

Thank you for your help!
