Screen not refreshing in RDP in Version 12.6.8.0

Screen not refreshing in RDP in Version 12.6.8.0

avatar

Hi

We have 3 Surface Pros running Remote Desktop Manager mainly used for RDP connections.

In the last month, 2 of the Surface users are getting an issue when in RDM using RDP they screen does not refresh all the time, so when application pop-ups appear you need to toggle off the RDP connection and back to see it, sometimes you can hover the mouse over the screen and it does redraw it as well.

The 2 with the issue are on Version 12.6.8.0 and the 1 surface that works fine is on 12.6.6.0

I have tested running RDP via windows and it does appear ok.

Any idea on what might be causing this?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

Is it possible to post a small video of the issue?

Hi

Sorry but not on a public forum, as all rdp connections are customers.

I can try and describe it better.

You log onto the rdp session and everything is fine, then, for example you go to a website something like hotmail, and log in and then delete an email, an additional window will appear to confirm OK to delete, but it does not appear on the screen, if you click on your local desktop then back to RDM you can see the message box, or if you move your mouse around the inside the RDP session sometimes the box will appear as you move your mouse over it.

I have done a quick screen grab of what I sometimes see, this is from where I was in Explorer and dragged the window to the right but it still shows overlayed over application in the background

Hello,

Thank you for your print screen.

Could you launch RDM 64bit to see if there is any change?
Open the folder containing RDM, by default C:\Program Files (x86)\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager, and launch RemoteDesktopManager64.exe.

Hi Jeff

Launched the x64 version and will test, to see if this has helped.

Hello,

In embedded mode, RDM is using a Microsoft ActiveX to establish the remote connection. In fact, it's the same ActiveX that is used in the Microsoft RDC Manager product.

Do you encounter the same issue using that product?

Hello,

Thank you for your testing.

Could you go in File -> Options -> Types -> RDP and change the RDP version (first field) to FreeRDP and/or FreeRDP 7.0.

This will use FreeRDP instead of the Microsoft ActiveX to establish the remote connection. Let me know if you encounter the same issue or not.

Hi Jeff

Yes that seems better, but copy and paste is very flakey.

Hello,

Does the copy/paste issue is present with FreeRDP and FreeRDP 7.0?

Hi

Yes Copy and Paste both flakey in FreeRDP and FreeRDP 7.0, sometimes works and then doesn't.

Also, I had RDM crash using the FreeRDP, and now just noticed some features not present like in 2012 R2 a dragged window does not snap to half screen.

Not as good as the default setting for RDP, but the issue with the screen draw does appear to be fixed when using FreeRDP

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

Could you try RDP 8.0 to see if the overlay issue is present with that RDP version.

If yes, could you try to use the Classic UI to see if the issue is present using that user interface. To use the Classic UI, go in File -> Options -> User Interface and select Classic UI in the User Interface dropdown menu.

Hi Jeff

Tried just changing to RDP 8.0, better but the issue is still there.

Just switching to classic to see if this also helps.

Many thanks

Hi Jeff

Yes switching to classic does seem to have resolved the issue.

The classic view does not feel as nice as the previous settings, when you search via quick search little things like double click do not bring up the search window. Not a major issue and better than the drawing issue.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas and thanks for your help so far.

Cheers

Hello,

I can suggest you to try our latest beta, which is RDM 12.9.5.0
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/Home/Download#Beta

I don't know the type of data source that you are using, but, if you are using a data source like SQL Server, be aware that a database upgrade is required.

However, please note that the database upgrade is backward compatible for the users who use RDM 12.6.8.0.
