Digest Authentication broken

avatar

I've noticed recently that the Digest Authentication mode of embedded Chrome web sessions seems to be broken.
No matter if I define session credentials, inherit them, use short domain or dns domain names - the credentials used are the ones from the logged on RDM user instead. This was definitely working some versions before (don't remember exactly which was the last functional one).

Some of the affected sites also accept basic authentication which works with the correct credentials supplied. However this is no solution for the websites which exclusively accept Digest authentication.

I have assigned it to one of our dev for investigation.

Any news on that from the developer? Because some important sessions are really not working for us without this crucial functionality.

Hello,

If you make a new web entry with the digest credentials directly in the entry (not using the credential repository or anything else) does the same behavior happen? I ask this because we didn't update anything regarding digest authentication for embedded chrome in recent history.

hi Hubert,

I created a completely new web session entry with credentials directly defined in the session entry. Same result. Credentials effectively used are the ones from the user I run RDM with, not the ones defined in the session.
I tried this with multiple different websites to rule out issues with a specific website. Maybe your embedded Chrome component itself was updated recently and doesn't handle digest authentication differently/incorrect?

Holger,

The last time we updated the third party component was in November 2016. If digest authentication worked prior to RDM 12 but not in any later versions, that would explain the problem. Would it be possible for you to test with an earlier version of RDM? You can download previous versions here https://remotedesktopmanager.com/Home/PreviousVersions
Make sure to download the binary files (.zip format) and try it in a test database so it doesn't mess with your current setup.

We updated the DLLs to fix the HTTP proxy issue, which might fix this issue at the same time. I'm not too hopeful but it's worth trying out when the new version of RDM will be out.
