ADAL version problems

avatar

Hi Support,
keep getting problems using the Azure SQL database.
I get that it can't load the adalsql.dll (pretty much this https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/index.html?troubleshooting_sqlazure.htm )
but I have ADAL installed and trying to reinstall it only informs me that I have a newer version installed.

If I uninstall and then reinstall RDM, it works untill the next day. Im guessing that Windows Update updates the version but Im not sure.

Is this a know problem or do you have any tips how to solve this?

Regards
Christian

Hello,

When do you receive the DLL error exactly?

Could you post a print screen of the error message please.

Hello,
everytime I start RDM. The problems occoured once I installed Microsoft SQL Studio Manager 16.1
I temporary solved it by reinstalling RDM and it worked for a day, but the next day it was the same again.

Trying to reinstall ADAL give me an error message that I already have a newer version(se attached screenshot).

Hello,

I have Microsoft SQL Management Studio 17.1 and I am able to connect on Azure using AD Password authentication.

Using Microsoft SQL Management Studio, do you have access to your Azure database? Which type of authentication are you using?

The Active Directory Authentication Library that you have installed on your computer, have you downloaded here?

Hi,
yes I can access the database with the SQL Studio manager using Active Directory Universal Authentication.
Yes, I used that link to download ADAL, 64-bits version.

I reinstall RDM yesterday, since I needed to update some logins and after that it worked for the rest of the day, but this morning its back to the same error.

Hello,

Thank you for your tests.

I will verify with our Azure specialist later this week because he's in vacation and we will get back to you.

Sorry for the delay.

Best regards.

Hi Johan,

I've some research and have not been able to figure out what the issue is.

I've tried putting the file within the RDM directory and loading them manually without success. The only way to reproduce your error is to delete the file from my hard disk and I'm pretty sure that is not what is going in your case.

You suspect a Windows Update so lets try this. Could you check the version of both of the files when it works & when it doesn't work. They are located in C:\Windows\System32\adalsql.dll & C:\Windows\SysWOW64\adalsql.dll). I've attached the properties of both files for reference.

Also do you have any other locations where these files are located?

Hi Stefane,
I found out that it works with the 32-bit version of the program, but my shortcut was for the 64-bit version.
So after every reinstallation, it automaticly started the 32 bit version, which works, but the next time I needed it use it, I would try to start the 64-bit version, which doesn't work.

C:\Windows\System32\adalsql.dll version 1.0.2028.0318

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\adalsql.dll version 1.0.2028.0318

Very interesting, most of my tests have been with the 64-bit version and it "works on my machine".

All joking aside. We will investigate further. My secret hope is a new version of adalsql.dll would be released that will resolve your issue.

I found this thread on stackoverflow from last week, I believe you've tried this already... FYI the ENU\x64\adalsql.msi file contains both c64 & x86 version of adalsql.dll
