Performance Issues with RDM 8.1

Performance Issues with RDM 8.1

avatar

Hello there, we (in my company) are using the Remote Desktop Manager Server!

I and some of my coworkers have big performance issues with the RDM...

on swithing beetween locale and server, datasource the clients just hangs and "is not responding" for a few seconds...

also wenn connecting to a rdp session or switching the tabs off two opened rdp sessions...

another thing is when resizing the window the redraw process is extremly slow... not even itunes is that laggy?!

i'm trying to make a video of the problems... but with this performance it is unacceptable to use the programm!!

Hi, maybe it's the same problem as mine here : http://forum.devolutions.net/topic2761-bug-switching-rdp-sessions-is-slow-with-ribbon-ui.aspx

Can you check if the problem is present also using the old Classic UI? You can change the User interface by selecting File - Options.

sadly yes, i've tried allready with other UIs... no look either..
currently i'm trying to update the graphic driver... but i don't think this could be an issue because every other applications are working normally!

even it is a good performing machine (new HP 8570P Notebook) with SSD, Intel Core i7-3520M@2,9GHz and 8GB RAM on Windows 8 64Bit

one other finding for now:
the process of rdm goes to 28% of CPU Usage and then getting inactive in W8 Taskmanager... the Window then stopps to respond!

Hi,
Does this happen when you have a lot of connection opened? When you switch from local to server, do you mean two differents data source?

Hi again,
I was thinking of something, it's possible that a refresh could slow down the UI:

Do you have the logs panel visible?
Do you have the attachment panel visible?

Hello David, thanks for your response...

i've just opened to connections from the same datasource...

even i've noticed that when i'm using the server database its more serious than when using the locale database... i've checked the ntfs encryption allready, it is NOT set!

log panel and attachment panel is not visible...

iÄve also tried to complettly reinstall the rdm on my machine now... also i've completly deleted the folder in my user profile (appdata...) didn't helped anyway ... :(

I will have soon a version with a profiling window. This will help us track the bottleneck

Hi,
This version has the profiling window available

http://download.devolutions.net/Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManager.Bin.8.1.9.0.zip

Go in Help->Diagnostic

In the bottom-left, click on Launch profiler.
Keep this window open to view what is happening

Hello,

the profiler does not seem to work for me. I can open its window, but nothing is written inside whatever I do. Win 7 64 bit or XP machines, with version 8.1.9 and even 8.1.10. Am I doing something wrong?

BTW: closing and re-opening for a second time the Profile window always gives the error "ObjectDisposedException - Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'FrmProfilingViewer'." until you close and re-open the main RDM program.

profiler is working here (W8 64bit)

on changing beetween the datasources i got following output:

LoadConnectionsFromDataSource...
RDMS.GetConnections...
RDMS.GetConnections : 775 ms
SaveOfflineFile...
SaveOfflineFile : 1234 ms
LoadConnectionsFromDataSource : 2815 ms
TreeView.LoadConnectionList...
TreeView.LoadConnectionList : 322 ms
LoadConnectionsFromDataSource...
Xml.GetConnections...
Xml.GetConnections : 28 ms
SaveOfflineFile...
SaveOfflineFile : 0 ms
LoadConnectionsFromDataSource : 47 ms
TreeView.LoadConnectionList...
TreeView.LoadConnectionList : 12 ms
LoadConnectionsFromDataSource...
RDMS.GetConnections...
RDMS.GetConnections : 773 ms
SaveOfflineFile...
SaveOfflineFile : 1142 ms
LoadConnectionsFromDataSource : 2698 ms
TreeView.LoadConnectionList...
TreeView.LoadConnectionList : 326 ms

but the problem isn't just on switching...
i'm gonna try to make a vid later today.. just have to find a program that records the display without lagging....

@steve1712

Could you try to disable the offline mode? You seem to loose more than 1 sec to save the offline file

i got a video now where you can see, if i'm using the remote desktop manager server the rdm "client" hangs vor a couple of seconds on switching from one thing to another...

it also happens when using local source, but than it just hangs shortly and works back before windows says the process is inactive (hanging)...

after disabling the offline mode, the 1,2seconds of saving the offlinefiles are gone.. but this isn't the problem...
the issues you can see in the video are still here..

btw. i'm using a super fast Samsung 830 Series SSD so Disk Performance couldn't be the matter...

Hi,
I will watch your video later today. I won't be available during the day but I give you some feedback tomorrow.

i think i found my problem... i tried with a different User on my (same) machine... no issues at all..
then i testet a few things... after that i figured out that i've enabled the HP passport feature to fill in the RDMS Credentials with a Fingerprint for me...

after disabling the RDM in the HP Passport Tool that it should care about this Loginscreen switching between RDP Session's, Tabs and so forth is working flawlessly now!

Sorry for hasitating you, but maybe sometimes someone will help my findings too! :)

Hi Steve,
I don't know this product but I will try to take a look at it to understand why is impacting RDM.
