RDP Resolution settings not effective

RDP Resolution settings not effective

avatar

Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out why the resolution settings are not effective when I open the session (session is opened as an incorporated tab). Screenshot attached

What am I missing?

I'm using the latest free version of the Remote Desktop Manager.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

What server are you connecting on? Is it an RD session host?

Do you have a group policy in place per this technet article?
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee791756(v=ws.10).aspx

Hello Mark,

thanks for the fast reply. I'm RDPing into a Windows 10 Pro machine.

I haven't touched anything in the group policy, what policies should I modify exactly?

Thanks a lot.

Hello Valerio,

My colleague Mark is talking about the GPO on the server directly. You need to be an administrator of the external computer. Regarding the GPO, please take a look of the Remote Session Environment GPO on the Microsoft web site.

As another test, could you test the problem with RDCMan directly from Microsoft. You can download it from here. Do you have the same problem with RDCMan ?

Hello David,

thanks for the answer. I took a look at the Remote Session Environment GPO of the server but didn't find anything that could be helpful.

Regarding the test with RDCMan, I tried it and it worked fine (resolution was the one I choose).

I will add that if I open the session as an 'external' session (not incorporated/tab) it's working fine too. So it seems to be a problem of the incorporated sessions only.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

In your first post, we see that you have Smart Reconnect in the screen shot you provided.

Could you please set it to Smart Sizing instead to see if it makes a difference?

Hi Mark,

just tried Smart Sizing too, but didn't help. Any other idea?

Thanks

Try the Scrollbar mode please. This will use the specified resolution and use the scrollbar if the available area is too small.

Hello David,

thanks for the quick answer. Scrollbar didn't work neither though

Could you post a print screen of the tooltip visible when you do a mouse over of the tab page header of your connection? You will see the resolution and also the mode used for the connection.
