The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login

The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login

avatar

Hi,

I'm having the following problem with RDM 12.0.8.0.
When i try to connect to a 2012R2 server, i get the following message: The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login. This error occurs even before the 2012r2 authentication screen.

When i use mstsc i can connect without a problem to the server.

Any ideas how to fix this? Or is this a bug in RDM?

Hello,

Is the "Network Level Authentication" option (Connection tab) checked?

Hello Maurice,

NLA was unchecked. I've checked it and it made no difference.

Does it work with RDM in external mode? RDM uses mstsc in external mode by the way.

Hi David,

It also doesn't work in external mode.

Starting mstsc from start, it does work.

Could you export you connection from mstsc and from RDM (.rdp format) and compare them?

Hi David,

I've checked 'Public Mode' and now i get an authenication screen before connecting.
So it works again.

I have the same problem, and it turns to be a bug in RDM. (my version is up-to-date 2022.2.20.0)
Solution: restart whole RDM application and then connect again

Steps to reproduce problem:
1) create a new entry in RDM (or clone existing) pointing to the RDP of Windows server, that does not allow your login currently
2) try to connect. RDM will show message "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login"
3) fix the problem on target Windows server, allowing you to connect
4) try again unlimited times to connect. RDM will fail still, likely caching the first fail and not really trying again. MSTSC will work all the times
5) close RDM, open it again and voila, problem disappears

Was a solution ever found? We have gradually started to experience this as well. It works fine if we external instead of tabbed. Checking Public fixes the issue as well but worried about doing that for sensitive servers. My issue just started today while others have been having the issue for some time.

I'm running 2024.3.20.0. The picture on the left is what pops up first for a second. Then we get the connection was denied.

Thank you

Hello support95,

Thank you for reaching out.

I was unable to reproduce the error mentioned by peter01 when following the provided steps. Could you please let me know the type and version of the database connected to your RDM?

Additionally, could you confirm whether the steps to reproduce are accurate regarding the issue you're encountering?

I look forward to your reply.
