RDM 12.0.8.0 Database upgrade required

RDM 12.0.8.0 Database upgrade required

avatar

Dear Devolutions,
We are in the process of upgrading from DLVS 3.2.1.0 to DLVS4. According to the information i got, we have to first upgrade all RDM clients to RDM v12.
Our plan was to roll out a package of RDM v12.0.5.0 and after that upgrade to DLVS4. But during testing i discovered a bug (searchbar disappearing) and reported it. It was fixed in v12.0.6.0.
When waiting to create a new custom installer from the Custom Installer Manager, the next version available after 12.0.5.0 is 12.0.8.0. But it says a database upgrade is required to run RDM v12.0.8.0.
What is the correct way to facilitate the upgrade? Can i deploy RDM v12.0.8.0 (and thus do the database upgrade) with DLVS 3.2.1.0 and after that upgrade to DLVS4? Or what is the correct upgrade sequence for this one?
With kind regards,
Valid Operations

Hello,

We recommend to first upgrade your Devolutions Server instance to version 4.x and then upgrade all RDMs. On the upgrade of DVLS to version 4, the database will be upgraded. We do not recommend to upgrade the database and not upgrade your DVLS instance.

Please follow the instructions on this online help page about Upgrading Devolutions Server. Please note that this version introduces a dependency on the IIS Rewrite Module. Consult this online help page about it https://helpserver.devolutions.net/upgrade_dvls4.htm.

Hi Erica,
Thanks for the quick reply. Just forgot to mention: Most of our employees run anything between RDM v11.1.x.x and v11.7.2.0.
When i upgrade to DLVS4, can these users still connect to DLVS? Version limits are not set.
Thanks in advance.

It will work but on the long run it's not recommended. You might encounter issue when new types from RDM 12 are created. For example the root

It's not used as a long term solution. It's merly a extra step in the upgrade process to finally upgrade to DLVS and RDM 12.0.8.0+
So as for my understanding, the correct upgrade procedure would be as following:
1. Upgrade the current DLVS instance to DLVS4. Existing RDM 11.x.x.x clients can still work with DLVS4. Follow the upgrade instructions as mentioned above.
2. Create a new RDM 12.0.8.0 package via the Customer Installer Manager.
3. Deploy the 12.0.8.0 package to the employees and do the database upgrade.
Just for my understanding: Which database is upgraded during the 12.0.8.0 install? The DLVS database of the local RDM offline cache database?

Yes but don't forget to backup your database.

Hello,

The information about the upgrade of the database when installing RDM 12.0.8.0 is when your are connected to a SQL data source. This update when installing RDM 12.0.8.0 does not apply in your situation because you use a DVLS data source. The SQL database will be upgraded during the DVLS upgrade.

I forgot to mention that we are experiencing an issue with the new DVLS under two conditions:

If you fall into these two cases, I would recommend you wait for an ulterior build.

Otherwise, you can proceed with the upgrade of your Devolutions Server instance to version 4.0.6.0.

Hi Erica,

thanks for you hands up regarding the DLVS bug you are experiencing. We use indeed nested groups which are used as a role in DLVS.

Haha pressed too soon on send... sorry.
Any idea when we can expect a new version of DLVS?

Hello,

This feature is not implemented yet. However, our engineering department is already working on it.

Regrettably, the Support Department cannot provide an exact release date as the full process (Build – Quality Assurance – Release) is out of our control.

Any status update on this one? Is there already a fix?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The engineering department still works on that issue. As soon as we receive any news about it, we will update this thread.

Hello,

A fix has been made in DVLS and RDM about the nested AD group option. Are you interested to test our internal build of DVLS and the beta version of RDM?

Hi Erica,
Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunatly, i'm very busy at the moment with other projects, so i would not be able to test this real good.
Is it a problem if i decline this time to test?
With Kind regards,
Valid Operations.

Hello,

No it is not a problem if you do not have time to test it.

I will post here when we will release the version that includes a fix for the nested AD group issue.

Hi, Any update on the public release of the AD fix?
Thanks in advance.

We hope to release it within the next few weeks. We already have a good internal version with many other fixes.

Hi,
Any news on the release of the new DLVS version (and maybe on RDM 12.4.x?)
Thanks in advance.

avatar

Hi,
Would you be interested to test DVLS beta? We will have a version soon.

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. The reason that we don't want to beta test is that we as an Managed Service Provider is that we heavily rely on RDM. RDM is our primairy tool to access the customers environments. If anything should not work in the beta, i have 50 users on my back ;)
But i feel we getting to far behind with the new RDM versions. How stable is the beta at this moment? and do you have an expected date to release in public?
Thanks in advance.
With Kind regards.

Hi,
RDM 12.5 is now available and we you could install it on your workstation to begin with. You will need to do a database upgrade but this will be backward compatible with the previous version. I'm about to release another minor update (12.5.3.0) with some tweaks and you could wait for it if you want.

Hi David,
My appologies for creating confusion. I actually ment when the new build of DLVS is coming out. We are still on DLVS 3.2 after discovering a AD groups bug in DLVS4. There was an internal build we could use, but we rather wait to install in when it's released for the public.
So any news on the release of a new DLVS version? :)

We are feature complete since 2 weeks for DVLS but we are still doing a lot of test for this release. It's a huge update in term of security and we want to make sure that everything is perfect. We target a release this week.
