I have an RDP session with Inherited VPN Open settings
The parent group is set to inherit VPN Open settings
The grandparent VPN settings
Open: Connect if unable to ping/scan
Type: Session
Session: a VPN object under the grandparent group
The VPN object settings
VPN type: Microsoft VPN
VPN name VPN1
Phonebook document: VPN Phonebook which is a file stored in the database
All of our sites are configured like this but in the VPN object for each site we put the IP for the correct VPN.
This means we do not have to maintain a phonebook file, just the VPN connections in RDM.
The PPP adapter will always be called VPN1 regardless of which VPN I am connected to which I think may be where my problem is coming from
When I connect to another site and then want to re-connect to the previous site, I right click the entry and select reconnect.
It shows connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and the spinning logo.
It is set to smart connect I can get around this by using reconnect method Full but I don't want the window to close and reopen and add the extra delay.
Does it not / should it not ping the host and if unavailable reconnect the VPN?
Hello Paul,
Is it a new problem and does it happen with any of your remote site ?
What is your RDM version ?
Is it possible that the local network of your remote site is the same, so RDM is able to ping the IP instead isn't in the same customer ?
Best Regards,
David Grandolfo
Hi David
I am not sure if it is a new problem as we have not had it configured very long.
The IP address is different.
My local adapter is on 10.5.100.0
The VPN connections are all 192.168.xxx.xxx
It just won't auto connect the VPN when smart reconnect is selected
