11.7.6.0 crashing a lot

avatar

I have the same issue on 3x Windows 10 machines. RDM will crash randomly. These are the two errors that show up in the event log. Sometimes I will be in RDM, other times I will just be in a totally different application. Even left to come back and see that the app had crashed.

Hello,

mstscax.dll is Microsoft's ActiveX for RDP. The recent Windows 10 updates have wreaked havoc on sessions using a Gateway. Is there anything special about the host/connection?

Have you performed any changes in File - Options - Types - RDP?

All my connections are straight in with no gateway. Everything should be default under File - Options - Type - RDP

Hello,

Is it possible for you to send us a dump file of the error the next time that the error occured please.

You can send us the dump file via wetransfer.com at support@devolutions.net.

Let us know when it's done.

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

I upgraded to 11.9.0.0 and don't have the issue.

11.9.0.0 and 11.9.0.1 do it just as much now. 3 different machines.

Could you try to diable UDP and disable the RDP plugin:

Crashing and hanging here very frequently too!!! Same mstscax.dll crash... getting very annoying. Even tried switching to the beta but same issues.

Hi Clayton,
This means it's a crash in the native dll. I've seen that when an RDP plugin is installed. Something like Thinprint. You can try to disable the plugin loading.

I've never heard of RDP plugins. I haven't installed any that I'm aware of but I disabled them nonetheless.

I have disabled UDP in the options on RDM for now. Have not had any crashes in about 12 hours. Will see if that sticks.

I hesitate to disable UDP since it offers significant RDP performance gains, especially over WAN's. But I suppose I will have to if these crashes continue. :(

FYI, the crashes seem to often happen when I unlock my computer and Windows has to redraw my desktop. I often RDP to my desktop from home as well so I think that also has something to do with these crashes.

I am still getting this with every version I have used since the original post - currently on 11.9.5.0. Not actively using RDM and it still crashes. I came to my computer this morning after leaving RDM open and my machine locked and it was crashed. There was a single Microsoft RDP session open.
