Hello,

When does the error occurred ?

Does this has started after the installation of your Windows 10 preview build?

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

Hi,
Are you able to always reproduce the error? It seems to be an error in .NET or CoreMessaging.

Regards

David Hervieux

avatar

I'm not able to on purpose reproduce, but it has happened a couple of times, same error (code, offset, module).
On the 7th I upgraded to RDM 11.7.3 at 10PM and at 11PM I upgraded to the new OS build 14942.
I didn't use the updated RDM during that hour window on the older OS build.

I did submit the report to MS (details below)

@Vlad and @Niels

Does the crash happen when you disconnect from a RDP session?

Do you have a specific scenario that we can follow to reproduce the crash in our environment?

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

RDM just crashed when I had no focus on this window. I had 3 open RDP sessions and was doing things in Chrome. Nothing in the application log. Can I change the debug level maybe to catch this? I'm also unable to attach a debug application. I'm running VS 2015.

@Niels,

Could you try to disable UDP Settings on your computer.

To do so, go in Tools -> Local RDP/RemoteApp Manager in RDM and disable the UDP settings. Please note that you need to open RDM as an administrator to be able to do this.

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

It is happening at random, and some time when I work on the other monitor. I usually have 5-6 sessions open. I have disabled UDP, let's see if it will help

avatar

Hello,

Let us know if disabling UDP helps in your environment.

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

I changed the setting. Give me a week to monitor.

avatar

With UDP disabled, I've encountered the crash.

UDP disabled, crashing 2 times a day

avatar

Hello,

Could you give a try to RDM 11.9.2.0.

You can download this version here at the bottom of the page - http://remotedesktopmanager.com/Home/Download

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

Should we enable UDP again for this test?

avatar

Was 3 days on this version. No crash yet.

avatar

@Niels

You can try to re-enable UDP and let us know if it's better with or without UDP in your case.

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

I saw this post https://forum.devolutions.net/topic26903-program-crash-with-multiple-monitors.aspx and I forgot to mention that I use 2 monitors too. Maybe related. The same eventlogs and error messages are posted.

In the meantime no crashes yet with the beta version.

avatar

I also use 2 monitors

avatar

@Vlad

Have you encountered some crashes with the latest beta?

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

Nope, looks good.

avatar

Unfortunately yes. I had three sessions open and was working in a standalone mstsc session, when RDM crashed for no particular reason. I'm using 11.9.6.0.

avatar

Updated to 11.9.6.0. First day was OK, Crashed on second with this:

@Niels

Are all the prerequisite softwares properly installed on your computer?
https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/index.html?installation_prerequisite.htm

Do you have .Net Framework 4.6.2 installed on your PC?

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

avatar

Yes, all prerequisite software is installed. I reinstalled Windows 10 last weekend including .NET Framework 4.6.2, as I'm also running Visual Studio 2015.

avatar

Running 12.0.1.0
Crashing every 30 min. This product is becoming unusable. Congratulations on good job well done!

avatar

Could you post more details for exemple the details in the event viewer? Have you tried both version (32 bit and 64 bit). What data source type do you use?

Hello,

Open the folder containing RDM, by default C:\Program Files (x86)\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager, and launch RemoteDesktopManager64.exe.

This will launch RDM 64bit on your computer.

Best regards,

I installed version 12.0.2.0. I don't know if anything is done is this version to prevent the unexpected crashing.

avatar

@Niels

Did you have the same problem as Vlad with the previous version ?

@Vlad,

Hi Vlad,
Do you have an antivirus ? If yes, could you confirm that you 64 bit exe isn't in the vault and try to disable it when you start your RDM application please.

Also what your version of windows (you could do the command "Winver" on the command line windows.
Could you confirm that your windows are full up to date please.

Best Regards,

David Grandolfo

avatar

I skipped version 12.0.1. I can't confirm 12.0.2 crashing on start. Works for me for now.

avatar

@David

Hi David
I am using built-in Defender and it is not in the list of quarantined files.
12.0.2 is better somehow. No crush yet, but was freezing on exit.
64-bit crashed on first try, but working now OK for an hour. Will test today all day.
Windows version is 1607 OS build 14971.1000

avatar

Thank you for your update.

David Hervieux

avatar

Unfortunately 12.0.2 is also crashing for no reason. Are you able to catch the unhandled exception to a log? Or send me a debuggable executable, so I can attach VS to it on crashing and get the exception?

Since a few version ago (version 11) I also regularly get error pop when trying to connect to a new RDP session "Failed to reconnect to your remote session. Please try to connect again." (see attachment). In earlier versions I didn't get this error. Also my colleagues don't get these. Sometimes I need to try several times before being able to connect. Maybe it's related, that the session looses connection for a moment, RDM tries to reconnect and then runs into this error, unable to handle. For reference, I reinstalled Windows a few weeks ago and this didn't solve this problem.

2016-12-02_175003.png

avatar

Hi,
Have you copied the remotedesktopmanager.cfg when you re-installed your Windows or configured a new one?

Regards

David Hervieux

avatar

David,
My Windows is updated ones a week. I did not copy remotedesktopmanager.cfg
BTW, 12.0.2.0 64-bit was stable for 3 days.

avatar

@Niels

It looks like if the error is coming directly from the ActiveX of RDP that we use on RDM. Could you run a command line who ping your server with a timestamp and look if the error is happening at the same time that you lose internet connection ?

Best Regards,

David Grandolfo

avatar

@David, that would be difficult as this is happening to multiple servers and not always the same one.

avatar

Mine is still crashing frequently as well... it's getting very frustrating and I'm going to start looking for a different product. I can't believe you guys are still using ActiveX technology!!

Hi Clayton,
We are not using the ActiveX technology. Microsoft uses it. You can try RDCMan. We use the same ActiveX (C:\WINDOWS\system32\mstscax.dll). Have you try disable UDP or the external RDP plugins. That something we know that could crashes the ActiveX.

I have 691 entries, could this be a problem?

Hi Vlad,
I will understand if you don't renew your license. All I can tell you, even though you might not like it, it's in the Microsoft RDP ActiveX that you get the recent crash. Every RDP applications you will download use it: Terminals, RDCMan, RoyalTS, mRemote...

If it's not done already you can try to disable the RDP plugins and UDP like mentioned in the logoff topic:

https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/troubleshooting_rdphanglogoff.htm

Regards

David Hervieux

avatar

@David
I have UDP disabled, but having nearly 700 entries makes it impossible to disable plugins.

avatar

Hello,

Are your RDP entries' plugin value set to "default"? If that is the case, you can go in File > Options > Types > RDP, and set the "load plug-ins in embedded mode" value to "false" to disable plugins by default.

Regards,

Hubert Mireault

avatar

Are you guys at least working with Microsoft to fix this? I would assume you would have more avenues to contact them about this than we would.

avatar

Hi,
We try to get in touch with them but it's not easy. I will check with the team and I think we will try to use FreeRDP on Windows as well.

Regards

David Hervieux
