Adding .hta documents for sessions

Adding .hta documents for sessions

avatar

Hello everybody.

I ran into a problem using Remote Desktop Manager while trying to add hyper text applications ment to open a connection to a VPN connected system. Previously me and my colleagues were able to simply add these .hta documents into our sessions as a "default" document, with a link to a file as its main property. Unfortunately, after updating to the latest version 2.7.1.0 this option seems to have disappeared.

We checked the availability settings in the options which showed all document options being enabled (and thus available) but we're unable to add documents (or document links) as sessions even when specifically searching for it (searching for document or default yields no result, searching for files just shows various options to connect to a file manager)

Any idea how we can re-enable hta documents to be selectable source for remote connections?

Thank you for your help,
Simon Hahne

Hello,

What version we're you using before?

Does your document entry was saved as a sub-connection?

Hello,

I just test RDM Free 2.6.0.0 and the document types are not present like in RDM 2.7.1.0.

I will look into older version and get back to you.

Hello,

I have installed RDM Free 1.0.0.0 and 1.5.0.0 on my computer and the document session type is not available.

I may think that your documents were saved in the Enterprise editon of RDM.

Is it possible that you have the Free edition and the Enterprise editon of RDM installed on your computer?

i imported the complete sessions from my colleague, but he can now also no longer find these document options on his program. He never consciously installed or upgraded to the Enterprise Version of the product, but had apparently been able to add these documents at some point in the past.

If this feature is exclusive to the Enterprise Edition of Remote Desktop Manager, it at least explains why we can't seem to access it and we will have to discuss how to go about it in the coming days.

In either way, thank you for your quick response and sorry you had to go through so much effort for us.

Hello Simon,

No problem, I am here to help you.

Yes, the documents session types are available in the Enterprise Edition of RDM.

You can try this edition of RDM for free for a period of 30 days if you want. I will send you a trial key via Private Message so that you can test this edition if you want.

Against my own better interest i should probably let you know, that there is a loophole in the free version of the program. We are able to duplicate document entries and then edit them to get the new hta's into place ;) so in theory, anyone who creates a document entry during the free 30 day trial (i assume at this point that my colleague accidentally activated that trial period and had it expire at some pointin the past) has (complicated but full) access to this function, even in the free version. Maybe that particular minor functionality could be migrated to the free version one day.

Until then, we're still discussing upgrading to the enterprise edition, but it doesn't look likely, since we can also keep using these hta's manually and that's kinda the only added functionality we'd actually benefit frmo at this point.

Thank you for your quick support, and maybe, if you don't crack down on the loophole, consider giving up that small part of the documents functionality for the free version as a session type.

Have a nice day!

Hi,
I don't think we will block the loophole since the goal of the enterprise edition is to share the information and not block some specific type. The documents were not included simply because the original format was an Xml file and it was nearly impossible to save the document into the Xml without a huge impact on the performance.

I will think about adding the document type eventually in the free edition.
