Remote Access on Android

avatar

I've successfully installed the app on my phone and have created an Online Drive that holds my sessions files so that I can sync everything. Everything appears to be in working order as far as that's concerned as my sessions are showing up on my phone now. I am wondering how to in fact remote in, however. Is this possible through the app? Or will I need to use a separate app for that?

I know Microsoft makes and RDP app for android as well.

Thanks.

We support many connection types in our Android version:

RDP, VNC, Telnet, SSH, Apple Remote Desktop, Web and more.

This means that you don't need any other application. It's exactly like our desktop version.

Hi David,

I guess where I'm confused is by the fact the my Windows machine has RDP installed on it but my android phone naturally does not. So how can RDM effectively use RDP on android? I didn't think RDM was actually providing the RDP software since it's just a manager, but instead just "calling it" so to speak.

Whenever I open up RDM on my phone, I see all my sessions but I can't seem to actually open a session. When I type on a saved session, nothing happens. Any ideas?

On Android we use the open source FreeRDP. For you issue with RDP I will let the Android dev work with you. I will assign this thread to them

Great. Thanks!

Hi Andrew,

To the right of each connection there should be 3 dots aligned vertically. Clicking on the dots will let you see the different options for that connection, such as view, edit or open. To launch a session, select "Open" from the list.

When I do so, I'm getting a "The host is not responding or cannot be resolved. Please verify your settings and host availability" error. It works on my desktop, however.

I'm running Android 6.0.1 and the OS is Oxygen in case that's of any benefit.

Can you try using one of the following as the host name for your session :

-The ip address of the host
-The full name of the host on the network (i.e. hostname.domain.com)

Thank you

Putting in the IP address worked. However, the IP address is received via DHCP so it could obviously change. Is there anything I can do that would help deal with this issue?

The computers I'm dealing with here aren't on a domain, so the computer name is also the full name of the computer.

Sometimes a machine can have a DNS suffix even when it doesn't have a domain. Just to be sure, the full name of the host would be the name that appears if you resolve the ip address (i.e. by typing "ping -a x.x.x.x" in Windows command line).

If that name doesn't work I'm afraid you can only use the DHCP IP address for now. The next version of the Android app will improve host name resolving on most Android devices so you can try using the host name again once it's out. The new version should be released before the end of the month.

Ok. Thanks. It doesn't appear to have a DNS suffix after running that command in the command prompt. I'll just use the DHCP IP address for now and try the host name method again after the app update.

Thanks for all your help.
