Inherit settings from parent folder

Inherit settings from parent folder

avatar

From what it looks like, I should be able to make my default settings on the parent folder and have those propagate to all child sessions.

When setting VPN settings and credential settings they do not propagate to each child session.

Instead, I have to go into each session entry and make the necessary changes.

Is this expected or should I be able to make all the changes to the parent folder as I thought?

Hello,

You are right, your sessions can use the credential and the VPN settings from a parent folder to connect.

To do so, you would need to configure the Credentials to be Inherited

and the VPN to be Inherited as well in the VPN section of your session

Is there a way that I can bulk change these settings to to inherit?

Everything I have tried so far doesn't seem to work...

I have tried to use the "Batch Edit" tool as well.

Hello,

The batch edit feature should do the trick.

Please consult the link below to help you do your changes

Okay, this seemed to work correctly, however, the credential changes don't seem to be shown. It does indeed connect with the appropriate credentials but the "Entry Settings" window just says "Default" for the credential. Shouldn't this be updates to say either "Inherited" or the actual settings that it has been changed to?

Also, is there a feature request in the works asking that settings made to a parent folder are automatically applied to anything within that folder? Rather than having to "Batch Edit" the child entries?

Thanks

Hello,

Your sessions should display Inherited immediatelly after that you have run the Batch Edit. To change the setting to Inherited, you need to go in Edit -> Batch Edit -> Change Saved Credentials after the selection of your sessions. Is this what you have done?

It's possible to change the Default Settings of your sessions, so when you create a new session it could send it to Inherited by default for example. Please consult http://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/file_template_defaultsettings.htm for more information.

Okay, it looks like these two things have answered my question.

Thank you very much for your assistance with this.
