Synchronizer ignores Description Updates

Synchronizer ignores Description Updates

avatar

It seems to me that the synchronizer ignores changes to the description of an object.
I noticed that in CSV synchronization as well as in AD synchronization.
While there was no change in name/count of objects, the description indeed changed but was not updated accordingly in RDM.
Did I miss something in the settings or is that a bug?

Hello Holger,
The synchronizer does not update the values for now. We were afraid of changing the existing data. However we could add an option for that. I don't thing we will be able to add this for RDM 11.5 but soon after the release.

That would be great, because the current approach of having to delete all items and then synchronize again is quite tiresome. Thanks a lot for considering that.

I got this same issue.
1. I export a CSV file with all keywords tags and notes from my source application.
2. In RDM we import the CSV file using a Synchronizer.
3. If the Object is modified in the source application. The CSV export is updated.
4. The synchronizer however is not seeing this change, and does not update my Session Entry.
It's not an option for me to recreate and re-shuffle the sessions, since i got hundreds of sessions in a lot of folders.

@DavidHervieux Any update on this? I'm running version 12.0.5.0

Hi Robert,
What do you mean exactly. It creates a new entry with the import?

We got a CMDB which contains all the network objects including additional information fields. I've created a powershell script that exports this data and transforms them into a CSV format that RDM accepts. When I run the first import with the CSV ,all fields are imported succesfully.
However as time passes, we modify the Additional information fields in the CMDB. Then in the newly exported CSV file the MetaInformation\Keywords field contains new information. But when the CSV imported into RDM again, the data in RDM is not updated, it still contains the old MetaIformation\Keywords data that was used in the first import.
It's the same issue as the Topic Starter reports with the Description field. So I guess you only check certain fields when you use the synchronizer?
I also treid to use the manual CSV import wizard, But if I use that method, i get double entries.

To throw my hat into the ring, too - I'm still very much interested in Descriptions being updated with Sync jobs. With AD as well as CSV syncs.
I think you can offer that as an option and maybe add a note that existing data of updated entries will be affected, there should be no harm.

@Robert Philipsen,

As I understand, you have created a CSV file to create new entries in RDM via the CSV Synchronizer. Then, in your CSV file, you update the keywords fields for the same entries and run the synchronizer again. If new entries were added to the CSV file, they are created, but the existing ones doesn't get the new keywords. Am I correct?

Exactly! Maybe it's good to make clear what fields are updated with a synchronizer and/or create a configuration option in the synchronizer settings?

Hi,
I will assign this to our team for improvements.

Do you know in which timeframe this will become available?

avatar

Hello,

The description and keywords fields should synchronize properly when using the CSV synchronizer in the next patch.

Great to hear!! Thanks a lot Samuel!

Dear Samuel,
Can you give an ETA of the new patch? is this weeks/months?
Thanks alot!,
Robert

Hi,
This will be in the next beta to be released later this week.

Hi guys,

You're talking about improvement on the CSV synchronizer. Could you do the same update for AD synchronizer. We update based on our AD and we already populate the primary users in the description. The only problem it never update in RDM.

avatar

Hi,
I will check with the team but that should not be a problem.

Hello,

We've made changes to both synchronizers. The CSV one will need the "Sync description" and "sync keywords" options to be checked again. The AD "Import description" option in the setting tab should work properly now.

Regards.

Great! how do I get that version?

This will be in the next minor update.

My issue is that the CSV synchronizer will not update the Group \ Folder after initial synchronization. I pull all of our servers from a management system and then parse the server name by naming convention to set the Group\Folder value. Sometimes a deployed server will not match naming conventions and I assign it to the Miscellaneous group\folder in RDM. Later I go back and add a name override to my name parsing routine which will now assign the correct folder\group. The CSV Synchronizer ignores the change of Folder\Group and I must manually delete the object from the RDM SQL datasource for it to show up in the correct Group\Folder the next scheduled synchronization.
Please consider this fix also.
Thanks, Stu
