Importing Credentials?

avatar

Howdy,

We want to look into using the Password portion of RDM to store our shared passwords. We currently have everything in a spreadsheet but want to put them into something a bit more secure.

Many of our passwords are AD based so we just have a Username, Password, Domain, and some notes about what it is for. Some of them are website logins that woudl have the URL, ID, Password, and some notes.

1) I did find a help page and screen that only mention Name, Description, Group, Username, Password, and URL. It doesn't specify Domain as an option. Can I simply add a Domain field to my CSV file and will it import that?

2) Is there a way to reference the URL field without having to manually open the entry and navigate to that section? There is a Copy Username, Copy Password, and Copy Domain button. Can I add a Copy URL button somehow?

Update: I created a sample CSV file with the following information:

Name,Username,Domain,URL,Password,Description
Test Name,Test_Username,Test_Domain,www.testurl.com,testpassword,testdescription

I did the import and the Domain did import but the URL did not import.

Hello,

The copy URL button will be present in the next release of RDM for Data Entry.

With your CSV import, what type of entries are your trying to create?

Hello,

The thing you can do is create you a session in RDM with all the fields that you need populated and do a right-click -> Clipboard -> Copy and paste the content in Notepad. You would see what is the title of each column that you need.

I didn't see anything that said what the difference was so I was doing a Credential Import so it would show up in the bottom section and be separated from our RDP Session entries. What's the difference between Data Entry Account, Data Entry Web, and Credential?

When I do a Credential, I get buttons for Copy Username, Password, and Domain but the URL doesn't import.
When I do a Data Entry Account or Web, I get buttons for Copy Username, Password, and Open URL (missing the Copy Domain even though the Domain does get imported). I also notice the URL doesn't import into the URL field (under "More), it imports into the Website box under General.

We wanted a way to keep all of our Credential entries (Domain or Web based) in the same place but separate from the Session information.

I did a copy of an Account and a Web entry and other than the Web entry having the word "Web" at the front of some of its field names, they look identical. Is there any functional difference between them?

If these can't go down in the Credential area I guess I just have to make a folder/group called Credentials up in the Session section and use that?

Hello,

Please look at the following blog for the difference betweeb Data Entry and Credential Entry
http://blog.devolutions.net/2015/11/data-entry-vs-credential-entry.html

For the Copy Domain button, this button exist for Credential entry, but not for Data Entry, however, it may be something we can add.

After reading the blog, let me know if you want to import your data as aData Entry or Credential Entry.

I can work with you to build your CSV template to import your data.

Most of the things we use have to be logged into manually. We wouldn't be linking the credentials to a Session like I do with my personal vault when I remote into a server. So I guess that means I want the Data Entry option. Is there any difference between the Data Entry Web and Data Entry Account?

Hello,

The difference is that you can use a Credential Repository to authenticate using a Web Entry session.

At this point, I may think that an Account Data Entry is the type of session that you are gonna use.

Now, you would need to create 1 Account Data Entry manually in RDM with all the information that you want inside the session and do a right-click -> Clipboard -> Copy and paste the content in Notepad. You would see what is the title of each column that you need. Please consult http://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/importcsv_strategies.htm as well.

If you still need help after, please send us an export of your session in RDM at support@devolutions.net and I will work with it to create a CSV Template for you.
