Embedded RDP tabs losing focus

Embedded RDP tabs losing focus

avatar

Hi there,

Ever since upgrading to RDM v8.0.11.0 I've been having problems with embedded RDP tabs losing their focus. Periodically and frequently (several times a minute) the focus will be lost for about a second to what appears to be the Explorer shell. The focus will then return. However, this has the impact of interrupting any typing that may be occurring (losing keystrokes) or permanently losing focus if you click the mouse at the time the focus is lost. This ultimately makes embedded tabs effectively impossible to use. We didn't have this issue under the previous v7 installation of RDM.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I'm unsure what additional information I can provide as the issue is more a usability problem, at no point do any errors occur. The host system is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. If I can provide any further information please let me know.

Thanks,
-SDL

Hi,
Could you verify if this happen with the Classic UI. You can change it in the application options.

Hi David,

I've been using RDM for a few hours now on Classic UI and have yet to see the problem happen again. I'll let you know if this changes but it's definitely looking like the issue is specific to the new Modern UI...

I too have seen this happen a few times and would like to know what steps are necessary to revert to classic UI on 8.0
Thanks

Hi,
It's very simple

File->Options

http://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/file_options_general.htm

You can select it in the User interface combobox

I was having the same problem. After reading this post, I switched to classic UI, and the focus problem still exists. I even tried switching to Default Menu, and the problem still occurs.

I work in RD sessions for more than 8 hours a day and it loses focus on me about every 30 seconds. This makes typing anything in the RD session a constant headache. Please tell me there is a solution to this loss of focus problem. I'd really like to avoid uninstalling and installing an older version, but if I can't work in a session for more than 30 seconds without getting interrupted by my rd window losing focus, I am likely headed that way.

I've advised all of my co-workers NOT to upgrade to the latest version until I see a fix to this problem.

Any more ideas?

Hi,
What type of data source do you use? Do you have the auto refresh enabled?

My datasource is 'Local Datasource - xml'. I'm not sure where I would set auto refresh options. Where are those?

Hi,
Could you try to verify that Auto refresh on file changed is unchecked in File->Data Sources

David Hervieux

Just verified, auto update was NOT turned on (unchecked)

Does it happen if you have only one session opened?

Just tried it, it happens when I only have 1 rd session open as well.

Could you try to reset the settings? rename the file remotedesktopmanager.cfg in %LocalAppData%\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager

I renamed the file, and it still happens. Interesting enough, I got a new laptop, reinstalled the latest version, imported my RDP sessions, and it still happens.

We had the same issue in RDM 10.1.0.0 but different to talq we had an embedded IE session open. In this session was a website with automatically reloads every 10 seconds.
When we changed the session to start as embedded chrome this issue didn't appears again.
