AD Syncronizer

Hi!

I just discovered the Syncronizer, and its AD part. Question:

How does the syncronizer detect duplicates? I'e hosts already present somewhere in the current Data source? Basically we want to syncronize all our servers from the AD but since we already have 90% of them in RDM i dont want to make duplicates and only aim at the last 10%.

I know there is a Search tab in AD Syncronizer properties, but setting that to subtree and duplicate check to root and then hitting preview under general still shows all servers, including those already present elsewhere (different folders) in RDM.

Hello,

As of now, the AD Synchronizer as only the capabilities of adding new entries.

If you have a LDAP query that is working to sync the computers that you want, we can help you in the configuration of your AD Sync session.

OK,

But what does the duplicate check under Search tab do more specificly?

Hello,

There is an issue with the duplicate check, it has been fixed internally and will be available in the next version, thanks for pointing it out.

To add on to J-F's point, there is actually a feature to delete/move connections created by the synchronizer in version 11.1.0.0. In the advanced tab there is an "Action on entry mismatch" option. You can choose to move or delete entries that don't match anymore provided the entry was created by this synchronizer. You can check if the entry was created by the synchronizer by looking in the entry's advanced tab under "Creation source".
We plan to have a help topic to make this new feature clearer in the future.

Thanks,

But does the duplicate check, when its fixed in the next beta, only prevent duplicates in the current target folder or in the whole datasource in terms of RDP connections?

If you put the mode on "root", it will check in the whole datasource, which means if you have an entry with the same type (RDP) with the same host, it will not import that AD entry. If you put the check on the destination group, it will only check for entries with the same type and same host in that group and its subgroups, not the rest of the datasource.

I hope this answers your question.
