All settings lost when upgrading from 11.0.20.0 to 11.0.21.0
Hi,
I'm using the portable (zip) version of Remote Desktop Manager. All settings (connections, settings, enterprise license) are lost when upgrading from 11.0.20.0 to 11.0.21.0 (by copying the contents of the zip file into the installation directory). It looks like the new version ignores RemoteDesktopManager.cfg on startup and writes a default version on exit. In my case RemoteDesktopManager.cfg was truncated from 14 Kb to about 2KB.
Hi,
Could you tell me where the cfg was saved? Could you verify if the zip file contains a file name remotedesktopmanager.cfg?
David Hervieux
it was saved in RDM's installation directory. Basically ignored on startup and written on exit. The zip file does not contain the .cfg file.
The file names in Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManager.Bin.11.0.20.0.zip are identical to Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManager.Bin.11.0.21.0.zip (at least in the root)
I will ask our QA to reproduce it and enter a bug for that.
Thank you for your help
Regards
David Hervieux
The same to me just now! Upgrading from 11.0.20 to 11.0.22...
But mine isn't a portable install, my cfg is located under AppData...
Luckly I've a current CFG backup but placing it back inside the folder is ignored and overwrited on exit...
:(
Ok I've played a bit inside the CFG and tried deleting random options...
In my case worked again after deleting this line "<DisableRibbon>true</DisableRibbon>".
After starting it correctly I changed back the UI and looked again inside the CFG and it seems that the "Default Menu" option is now provided by this line "<Style>DockingMenu</Style>".
I'll check if everything is working correctly...
Bye
Do you use the exe, the zip or the msi for the upgrade?
David Hervieux
I am confirming both of Logharn's observations. The guy should lead your tech support team for sure ;-)
I just upgraded to 11.0.22.0 and the same thing has happened. Lost all my settings, 32bit and 64bit (I normally use the latter), application has reverted to trial and thinks it's the Enterprise version which I didn't have before.
Don't close RDM and save your .cfg file before it's too late... Good luck!
Thanks too late though, but I recovered it from backups. Did the same and deleted "<DisableRibbon>true</DisableRibbon>" from the cfg and now it's back and running.
Was this a beta release because that's what I am updating from, happy to help testing, but if it wasn't a beta release why did this change get put into release without going through beta first?
Hi,
This is a beta release. I'm unable to reproduce the problem on my side but with all your posts I think that I have an idea what is the problem. I want to confirm something before:
Do you all use the classic UI or ribbon disabled?
Is it possible to send me one of your config that fails in private message?
Sorry for all the trouble.
Regards
David Hervieux
yes, ribbon disabled. My configuration will follow if I figure out how.
I'm still unable to reproduce it even with a faulty cfg. Could you verify if you have an error in the Application Logs?
David Hervieux
RemoteDesktopManager.log is not written. Otherwise I cannot find any specific log
I just set the UI to "Default (Menu)".
Hi David.
I've sent you the error I get into the log and my CFG.
As layout I've just set the "Default (Menu)" into the User Interface section.
I hope this will bring the devs to develop an error dialog when RDM finds something strange inside the CFG, just to not have the settings blanked upon exit... :greenp:
Anyway it seems almost everyone here do the backups regularly ;) :D
I just upgraded another system from 11.0.20.0 to 11.0.23.0 the newer version that's supposed to fix this - it kind of did, but reset my view from Menu to Ribbon but at least it didn't trash my entire configuration this time (though I kept a local copy of the cfg before the update this time).
