RDM Jump when using isolated VPN Connections

RDM Jump when using isolated VPN Connections

avatar

Hi
We have the problem that some VPN Connections are blocking the network as long their Connection is online.
So I wanted to place these VPN Connections in a local VM and use RDM Jump to solve that problem. But it seems that RDM Jump allows me only to get to the Agent by RDP. But the rdp Connection to the jump host is closed at moment.
is there any way to handle this Problem? In my opinion, RDM Jump should be exactly there for this use case.
Thanks
Michael

Please refer to http://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/gettingstartedwhatisrdmjump.htm

We have decided NOT to provide that Agent as a service at this time. This has a lot more security implications for our customers and we wanted to keep things simple initially.

Therefore, there must be a Windows session running on the host, logged in with the same credentials that you have in your Jump entry. In that session, either RDM itself or RDM Jump must be running.

Hi Maurice

Ok, I understand.

So is there any Chance to set up a Scenario like described? with or without jump isn't that Important for me.
I just want to find a way to set up such remote connections without shutting everything down.

Thanks

Hello,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "shutting everyting down".

The steps are:

You can now use jump

We use some VPN Clients which cut all other Network Connections (even the local Network) when connected.
So I am looking for a way how are engineers can be connected by this vpn Client and work on the local Network at the same time

you have the solution, a VM that runs the VPN client is the best solution.

Paired with our Jump, it makes for a seamless experience.

Hi Maurice

but can I jump in to that VM seamlessly? as far as I have seen I can only mark an RDP Connection as "Is Jump".

Hi,

One session to the jump host, but you must set ANOTHER session to use the jump host.

That other session can have a VPN as well.

I would suggest you watch the video that is available through the help link that I already sent you. It shows all the steps.

Hi Maurice

It's working at our place exaclty like in that video.

but in our cases the session cannot reach the jump host as soon as the jump host opens the vpn connection. because the policy of the vpn client blocks all other network connections. So there should be a way to connect to this jump host whitout using the "classic" network (its on the same physical machine).

Hello,

RDM cannot circumvent a configuration that prevents all other access from functioning, we can only automate scenarios that you are able to achieve manuall, not create new workflows.

If the vpn client creates a sandbox, we cannot defeat that. The decision rests in the adminstrator that manages the remote network.
