Export to xml with all data connections

Export to xml with all data connections

avatar

Despite many attempts I have never succeeded in creating an XML file ( or any other type ) with all details and properties of all connections , in particular passwords and descriptions . There’ s a way ?
My version is RDM Enterprise 10.6.7 and my data source is based on MySQL .
Thank you.

Hello,

The RDM format is xml. What is your goal?

Probably I did not t explain. Is there a way to export all connections (with ALL details/properties) from my unique datasouce (mySql on other server) in XML or in other format ? The need is to be able to access that "backup file" connections when the main data source is not available (due to backup or when I move away from the local network).

The best result I got using "Esportazione" -> "Esporta tutti i valori (.rdm)" (context menù->export->Export all values (.rdm)") because when, re-importing the file in RDM , the descriptions are not displayed , but passwords are entered properly.

Thanks.

Hello,

For backup purposes, the rdm format is the one to use. Export to other formats are for interroperability purposes.

we will now consider your topic as a bug report that the description is not re-imported back into RDM.

Thanks Maurice.

Hi Maurice,
the bug still remains in 11.1.0.0. (and after 5 months...).

Thanks.

Hi,
Could you give us a sample file where the description is not displayed after the import?

Hi,
attached a folder export with 2 items ("Text" type), one with only text, one with text and pictures.

Export done in 11.1.0.0 (traslate by me from italian RDM):
- Selected "TEST RDM" --> Right click
--> export --> Group export (.rdm)
-->include credentials --> OK

Thanks
Francesco.

Hi,
are there any news ?
In my version (11.7.2.0) still the same problem (test with export in RDM format).

Thanks
Francesco.

Hello,

I do not know the details of the assignment of this bug, but the RDM file that you sent us indicates that the content of the entry was stored in an attachment, which is not included in the file. There are multiple improvements that we could bring to our export process, especially when documents are involved.

I will try to find out what happened, sorry about the delay.

Best regards,

Maurice

After almost two years I have a feeling that you have not understood the problem ... You talk of attacment ... NO ... the problem is the description that is missing ....

Given the delay you think it's possible to ask for a refund of the maintenance fee that I pay regularly?

Thank you

Hi Franscesco,
If you think that the software does not meet your expectation because we don't have the description in the export Xml, we will gladly give you a refund.

That said I can assign this to one dev and he will contact you by email. On my machine the description is included in my export to .rdm file so we must be missing something.

By the way I have checked your sample and you are using Document type. The details of the document are saved in an attachment. That's why Maurice was talking about attachment. Could you post a print screen of the description in the UI and a print screen of it missing after the import?

Hi,
RDM is a great sw that I recommend to all my IT manager friends around Italy :-)
I prefer to solve my problem rather than having refund so confident I wait the dev mail.

Thx DAVID

Do you have the print screen in the meantime? I might have to time to check this personally.

Hi,
It's what's I thought. Unfortunately it's not a note or description like what we have for an RDP connection. It's a document and the details is saved in a private attachment. We have a feature where the text document description is loaded from the private attachment.

You could ask why it's an attachment. The reason is simple it's too avoid any performance impact when we load the data. An attachment can be huge with the images and this is why we are unable to include it in the exported Xml.

For now I don't have a solution for you. This is an architecture problem and it's not simple. I will have to think about it if I want to find a solution. Sorry about that.
