How to turn off UI dross

I don't use the bottom status area of the RDM Mac (or Windows) UI. It's not easy to turn off completely in either product.

But attempting to do so in RDM Mac leaves dross that I would rather devote to the remote desktop window (see image).

How can I turn off at least the truncated, partial line in the status area and, preferably, turn off the status area completely?
