Dear Devolutions people,
A while ago I asked for a feature with which you could add one entry to multiple folders so that you only needed to edit one and all duplicates would also be modified.
Well, I was happy that this is now a feature in RDM 8.0.3.0, but it has a nasty bug:
When creating an entry, you can create a shortcut with the right mouse click or you can add a semicolon ";" after the path to add it to another path as well. Brilliant!
But I found out that entries aren't sorted alphabetically anymore, so I grabbed those entries and dragged them above another item within that same folder.
However, RDM seems to think that I am moving the entry to another folder and it sets the path to that new folder (which is still the same folder), removing the other path after the semi-colon, so the shortcut in the other folder is erased and I only have one entry left :-(
So there are 2 bugs to be fixed:
- Fix the alphabetical sort method
- While moving the entries around (even if it's to another folder) RDM should split the path at the semi-colon, only change the current source folder path (from which you are pulling the entry away) to the new folder path and then merge the paths again with a semicolon
Please, can you fix this bug? I spent an hour deleting duplicate entries and then adding shortcuts for the remaining entries, then I decided to sort them manually and after I sorted half of them manually I saw that most of the shortcuts were gone, so I needed to add them again. I wasn't very happy about that ;-)
I reported the bug to my colleagues, so that they wouldn't try to sort or move these entries around, but it's still a bit tricky, so I would really, really appreciate it if it could be fixed in the next release.
Kind regards,

Just a quick addition:
If you double click a shortcut, the tree to the original will unfold and only the original entry will have a play icon. This is a little confusing. In my opinion the double clicked icon should have the play button and the original entry and its treepath should be kept the way it is at the moment of clicking (so if the original is collapsed, it should stay collapsed).
If something can be done about this, the shortcut feature would be great. If not, I'm thinking about returning to the way we worked before (with duplicates which we have to modify separately).
Kind regards,
Remco van Wingerden
Hi,
I have entered a 3 bugs for that. Sorry about that.
David Hervieux
Dear David,
Thank you for the reply.
Could you tell me in which version this bug will (probably) be fixed?
If it will be fixed in a couple of weeks, we'll wait patiently for that bugfix :-)
Kind regards,
Remco van Wingerden
We are currently working on bug fixes. So I hope that we will be able to fix them in the next few weeks.
David Hervieux
Sort and play icon are now fixed internally. I will work on the last one soon.
David Hervieux
Great! Thanks for all the effort. I'll wait patiently for the release with the bugfix.
By the way: besides this bug we absolutely LOVE RDM. We use it to remote access our physical servers, our virtual servers (sometimes directly in Hyper-V mode), our switches, our SQL Servers, etc. And it has completely replaced our TeamViewer Manager.
If it could be merged with our PRTG Network Manager, we would have a one-stop administration/management/notification/monitoring application ;-)
I hope to release the 8.0.7 soon. Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate. I will take a look at PRTG Network Manager to see if we can do something.
Regards
David Hervieux
I forgot to write, the last one is also fixed.
David Hervieux
Wow! That's great. Thank you very much! :-)
I already installed 8.0.6.0 and the 2 other bugs have been corrected nicely as well.
Merging RDM with PRTG Network Monitor was just something silly though, but it is a good application from Paessler: http://www.paessler.com/prtg. Maybe you'll like it.
By the way, it is "PRTG Network Monitor" and not "Manager" as I said earlier. Sorry for that.
All of my bugs are gone in beta 8.0.7.0. Perfect! Thanks again.
