Search tab

Clicking in the "Search" field in the bottom right of RDM (10.5.4.0) always requires a second click inside the search bar before I can start typing.

My cursor will often return to the last field I was typing in (often in whatever code or script I may be editing at the time).

This is a repeatable issue, and is happening to several others on my team in the same fashion

Hi,
I will ask JF to reproduce it.

Hi Jason,

I was not able to reproduce your issue in RDM 10.5.4 or RDM 10.5.5.0.

Is it possible for you to send me a small video of the issue at support@devolutions.net please.

Best regards,

Jeff Dagenais

Hi,

This is also happening to me and only since I upgraded to version 10.5.4.0

Very annoying as I use the search bar all the time and keep tying into another window.

To add to this, I have noticed that when I first click onto the search box, the cursor appears, then about 1 second later the cursor disappears and focus is lost.

Hi,

Just to let you know that a ticket has been opened to our engineering department for this situation.

I can confirm that the focus very often doesn't stay in the search field after the first click.

For example now: I started RDM, searched for a session, launched it (tabbed), now the session is active (RDP session to a 2008 R2 server). I work in it, do something else etc.

I come back to RDM and want to search for another session and launch it. So I click in the search field and immediately the RDP session takes focus back. When I click in the search field a second time, I finally manage to type in the new search string.

Usually the problem appears, when I am working on other stuff than in RDM. Then when I want to click directly in the search field, the RDM Window discards the aim of my first click and first "activates" itself and focuses on the main content, which is the opened RDM session at this time. Therefore there is a 2nd click necessary to focus on the search field.

We use RDM 10.5.4.0 64-bit on Windows 2012 R2 (XenDesktop 7.6) but had happened also on older versions and older OS/XenApp.

Thanks in advance!

Daniel

I will ask JF to reproduce it with the your steps. I might know what's the issue but this is not a simple fix. RDM tries to give back the focus to the embedded connection.

If it is not possible to focus the search field with one click from outside RDM, it's probably a good idea to ignore the click completely instead of irritate the user by focusing on the search field for 1sec and then changing the focus to what the main window thinks is best.

With ignoring the first click I mean, that the user doesn't see any action from his first click except that the RDM window gets "active". I think that is how it is done in office 2013. There you can't (ie in Outlook) click on "Reply" when the outlook window is not "active". That first click only activates the window and does nothing else.

(I hope you understand my idea:)

Hi Daniel,
I think that I've been able to fix it. This will be in the next beta release. In the meantime you can disable the Focus content on application activate located in File->Options

Use the search to find the setting in the Advanced section.
