Microsoft VPN Credentials not working

Microsoft VPN Credentials not working

avatar

Hi,

Whenever I add a Microsoft VPN connection and specify the credentials, the connection doesn't work.
It shows "Opening VPN Connection" for a second, and then closes.

The VPN connection works perfectly from within windows (same credentials).

When I allow the credentials to be saved in the connection (windows setting), and connect once with windows (thus saving the credentials), then RDM is also able to launch the VPN. Ignoring the credentials added in RDM itself (tested with wrong creds).
The problem with this is that on another pc those credentials aren't stored, and I have to do this on every PC.

I am trying this on Windows 8 (and Windows 10).

regards,
Stijn

Hi,

It seems that this is only a problem when using "EAP-MSCHAP v2" on the Security tab of the VPN profile.
When using normal MS-CHAP v2 credentials are used.

Could you try to use check the use rasphone option?

Hi,

With rasphone checked:
"Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection."

Altough the problem for me is fixed (I use MS-CHAP v2 now instead of EAP-MSCHAP v2). If you like to continue searching for the problem I'm happy to test.

Hi,
that's good for me too. I was just curious about the rasphone option.

Sorry to pull up an old thread. I did some Google searching, but I'm still not sure how to get a Windows VPN to work in the Remote Desktop Manager for a VPN that has "Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)" selected under "Allow these protocols" in security settings.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Beth

@Beth Santi,

This value is saved in the phonebook, so creating a phonebook and import it in RDM should do the trick.

Please refer you to this help topic for all the steps
