How do templates / Default Settings work?

How do templates / Default Settings work?

avatar

Under File / Templates we get the option to Modify the settings used when Sessions are created and create templates. However, it doesn't appear these are stored as Global settings? I just reinstalled RDM on a new PC and while my connections came back, when I went to File, Templates, Session, RDP all the normal settings were gone.

It seems like these templates/settings are stored locally and are only for me? What we want to do is have a standard set of options so that anytime anyone created a new session it will use the same settings so all our connections end up the same. I see I can make a Shared Template but that doesn't seem to affect what it uses when I do an Add Session,

Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe it doesn't work that way but could someone give me some more info on Templates and Default Settings?

Thanks

Hello,

For Advanced data sources, in the Data source settings, you can specify a path to share these settings across a team.

You simply need to copy your chosen templates to that path

They are located in your config folder, under Templates\DefaultTypes.

You will easily find your config folder by going in File-Options-Advanced, there is a hyperlink that will open your folder in explorer.

We are using an SQL Server for our data source. On the Advanced Tab I don't see anything about a path.

I did find the folder you mention so do we just need to copy the file to each of our admin users and have them put it in their folder and it will get read in when they open the program?
