Understanding Password Repository Config with RDM

Understanding Password Repository Config with RDM

I feel like I am missing something basic here. I see several posts in the forum that deal with password management, but I didn't see one that explained what I stuck on.

Expected:
Edit any session, Navigate to the tools tab, choose "Use credential repository", open combo box: I should see all of my credentials from password manager

Actual:
Edit any session, Navigate to the tools tab, choose "Use credential repository", open combo box: I see only the credentials that are entered into the current data source.

My configuration:
I wanted to keep my sessions and credential information in separate data sources for security and backup reasons. And I don't want to see them in the same tree view since that would usually result in 2 tree entries for 1 item, such as displayin a GoDaddy session item next to GoDaddy credentials.
Using PVM I created a SQL data source for credentials.
Using RDM I created a SQL data source that points to a DIFFERENT DB/Table for sessions
And I launch both programs on Windows start-up.

I expected RDM to be able to get credentials from PVM auto-magically via inter-application communications. That didn't seem to work. So I tried adding the password data source into RDM as a secondary datasource (not default). And that still does not allow me to access the credentials unless I switch to the password datasource and add my sessions directly into the same datasource as my passwords.

What am I missing? Can I not have my passwords stored somewhere else? How does the KeePass integration work (I don't use KeePass, so I don't know)? Surely you don't have to create a new credential entry in RDM for every KeePass credential, and keep them in sync as you add new ones?

Can I not just configure my credential repository and use whatever is in it without adding credential entries into the same data source?

Hi,
Sorry about the delay. We had a bug in PVM where only the Data entry were listed. This is now resolved in the latest version. Maybe this was your problem?

I have the latest versions, but I still cannot see my PVM entries from RDM unless I add the PVM datasource to RDM and set it as the active datasource - which results in my sessions being stored with my credentials. And that is not what I want.

Hi,
I think that I know the problem. You need to create a link in your RDM data source. Add new Credential Entry of type PVM

But in this case, I would have to add a Credential Entry for every credential that I use. I have more than 100. Is there no way to link ALL of my credentials without creating a separate link for each one? I do not wish to maintain 2 items (the credential in PVM, AND the link entry in RDM). I want to be able to add a credential in PVM and have it AUTOMATICALLY show up as a selection in RDM when I create new sessions.

Also, I do not want to have an item in RDM for the credentials. It would look like duplicate information. I would essentially always have 1 item for the session, and 1 item for the credentials - when really I only want the session to show in RDM. The credentials item is noise, since I do not manage credentials in RDM.

We could add an import but we need to create a bridge. What you could do is use the embedded credential instead of the link. Select the PVM session you want

Yes! This is exactly what I was looking for. I just got distracted by the credentials options on the tools tab. Thanks! I knew I was missing something simple.
