Hi all,
I am trial remote manager. Noticed that the RemoteDesktopManager process is taking a committed memory of 400MB.
I am noticed this with both enterprise and the Free version.
Is this the expected memory commitment? Can it be reduced?
thank you
Hi,
How many connections do you open?
David Hervieux
None connections open. when I was looking at 400MB. Just the app running.
what is the expected usage for having the application open?
My connection db is XML with around 12MB. But I would not imagine this to be the problem...
Hello,
Can you include a screenshot of the about box?
We will see the version as well as the memory usage.
Thank you,
Maurice
Hi,
An xml database of 12M is huge. How many session do you have? Do you use the custom images?
David Hervieux
Hi,
@David, I have around 330 sessions. 90% are RDP. 10% are mix of teamviewer, citrix, browser sessions. No custom images. I did had couple of documents which contained images. Some sort of instruction for couple of RDP as a test. Once I removed them I got the db down to 3MB..great difference.
50% of the db was was imported from .rdg and the rest created manually.
@Michael, please find images attached.
RMF > Remote manager Free
RMET_nodb > remote manager enterprise trial. defaul db. no entried
RMET_3MBdb > remote manager enterprise trial. 3MB db.
thank you

In Help-> Diagnostic we have Data Source stats section. Could you post the result?
David Hervieux
It does look like I use 4 custom images... hum.. perhaps some hold test? but at least the db is now 3 MB... alot better than 12MB :).. still my memory usage is high.. I think... if this is benchmark than ok..
Data Source: Xml
Size: 3.2 MB
Offline: False
Entries: 392
Custom Images: 4
RTF Notes: 4
Hi,
I think that 3 MB is still big for 392 entries.
David Hervieux
Is there any way to find where larger entries can be found at?
what would be your expectation for 400entries. And more important, what would be your memory usage expectation?
Just for a test you could create a new empty data source and start the application with this one selected. You will get the baseline. RDM is a .NET application and sometime it could use more memory because of that.
What you could also verify is that the application is pre-jit which means that it's pre-compiled. We have a optimize.bat file in the installation path. You could try to execute it especially if you installed RDM from the zip file.
David Hervieux
Here is one example that I have:
Data Source: Remote Desktop Manager Online
Size: 714.9 KB
Offline: False
Entries: 677
Custom Images: 8
RTF Notes: 0
David Hervieux
I will add a feature request to find the large entries in diagnostic.
David Hervieux
RMET_nodb image I attached is exactly from new data source with no entries.
I am at 150MB memory usage. using enterprise trial.
I have a data source in .kdbx (believe to be very old format for remote manager) it only has 250KB. it does not have all 400 entries but should have at least half of it... It was when i migrated to XML i noticed this increase insize
Also, the enterprise trial I am testing is for proof of concept and I am evaluating the "portability" of this version. So instead of installing it I use the binaries to execute it.
But I do not believe the problem is this, because I have free version properly installed and I have the same high usage.
Hi,
What do you get in the Task Manager?
David Hervieux
Commited 426MB with the 3MB xml
And with NoDB?
David Hervieux
Right.. so I now have 3 connections. data source of 4KB.
Using enterprise trial, I get 220MB committed on task manager. 150MB on About tab.
With the optimize.bat executed?
David Hervieux
No.
Where can I find the optimize on the binaries package? Just ran a search by "optimize" and nothing came up.
**EDIT**
Just found it on the Free version.
Ran it and restart the app. Started at 88MB. without using the app .. just let it run, after 1min is now at 120MB on the About tab

Do you think I would have better luck if I would to properly install the app instead of running it off the Bins?
It's called OptimizeRDM.bat in the zip file. I have verified and it's in the zip file. .NET will not free up the memory if you're system is not stressed or if you have a lot of it available.
David Hervieux
True.. and it is my case on this laptop I am working from. So I will not see any impact.
I will test on a VM with the specs of a pc where it will be utilized.
Thank you
