Updating license key

avatar

We have hundreds of systems now with RDM installed. When the license expires, is there an easy way to upgrade all of them at the same time?

Hello,

In the Administration - Data source settings - Version Management - Serial

I assume you have an advanced data source since you have hundreds of systems ;)

Actually, we don't have an advanced data source at the moment, but we were looking at doing that at some time.

Also, I don't see that option under Administration. I think the data source settings I have is under the File menu. Is there any way to advise me on how I can get this to work? I know we're about a year out from our license expiring, but I want to ensure we don't get caught by surprise at that time.

Thanks.

The menu only appears for Advanced Data sources

Did you plan on making the switch to an advanced data source before the expiration of your licence?

If not then there's no easy way. I will wait for your response before describing the least intense method of updating your licenses.

So I can test this out, what types of advanced data sources will enable this menu? Can I use Drop Box as an advanced data source? I tried that, but still don't see the menu options you stated.

I have tried both FTP and Drop Box, with no change in the menus. Maybe there's something I'm missing here.

Hi tom_minerd,

By Advanced Data Sources, we mean one of the following: MSSQL, MySQL, RDMS or RDMO

So, I'm using RDMO as a datasource and still do not see the options that were mentioned in the menus. Nothing under Administration is even close. I'm using v10.1 of RDM.

Hi tom_minerd,

What is your subscription plan for RDMO?

With the Professional or the Enterprise Edition, you will have the Data Source Settings menu.

Do you have a SQL Server configured in your organization? If not, you can installed SQLExpress (which is free) and create you a SQL Server data source. With this type of data source, you will have the Data Source Settings menu.

Just an update... I was able to create a database on a SQL 2008 server and now I see the option mentioned. So, if I set up the key under Version Management, and everyone points to this data source, does that mean that their version of RDM for their user account get updated from the central database? If so, then this solves a potential issue we will have when we have to update hundreds of VMs that have RDM installed.

Hi tom_minerd,

In Administration -> Data Sources Settings, it would be possible for you to add the license to use and the minimum version of RDM that they need.

You will also found a field to indicate the location of the installation file that they need to run to installed the proper version to use.
