Advanced Option - Basic UI flag

Selecting the "Use Basic UI from version 5.7" setting doesn't seem to work, or maybe it's just not doing what I'm expecting. What I'm expecting is that the Description/Details/Information gets displayed as a separate tab when I select a connection. What I have is the information displayed at the lower left corner, under the connection tree.
By clicking File, Options then selecting the Advanced tab and checking the "Use Basic UI from version 5.7" in the "Other Options", I expected the "UseBasicUI" setting in the .cfg file to be updated, but it's not. In fact, the only thing that does change in the .cfg file is that a blank line is added to the end of the file. And, if I manually change the UseBasicUI setting, the display doesn't update.
So, how do I toggle the description to be displayed in a separate tab vs. being displayed in the lower left corner?
