Yes it's possible to change the setting in View -> PlayList

ok, found it. with all the merits of RDM, the usability is sometimes horrible. even with your help I just spend 5 minutes finding the playlist management..

Any suggestion?

hire a specialist ;) (quite seriously..) - or - it looks like a nice topic for a thesis for a CS/design student, even if there won't come out a complete solution, at least you get input from someone on top of current UI design ideas

and as a quick 'n dirty solution have a search box, which lists all available menus (the kind where you type "play" and it reduces a dropdown to all entries having "play" in it)
