'Company-wide' default settings

'Company-wide' default settings

avatar

I've created/modified some default settings for RDP session, folders etc.

It seems that these default settings are user-specific?

Is there a way to create 'company-wide' settings, so every sessions or rdp sessions that is created by multiple users will have the same default settings?

Hello,

Indeed these are strictly personal at this time. We have the template mechanism that supports both local and shared templates but we have yet to implement this for the default settings.

You can redistribute yours across your team easily though. They are by default in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager\Templates\DefaultTypes

Simply copy the .rdt files in the corresponding folder of your colleagues.

You can also specify in the File->Options the default type folder. This means that you could use a shared folder. This is new in RDM 10

I've now implemented a shared folder to store default type files. I have yet to look into security for this folder (as we don't want just anybody to modify the defaults).

But anyhow, in my opinion things like default settings for sessions, credentials, folders etc. should be a configuration 'option' of the datasource. Having to change a 'user' option and having to distribute a new config (or just distribute a new msi package with those settings) is a pain in the ass when working with large teams.

We (as RDM admins) should be able to define settings, paths etc within the datasource and those settings need to be used by all clients connected to that datasource.

Hi Kees,
I think you're right and it could be interesting to have default session settings per data source. I will enter a feature request for that.

Hello,

In the upcoming version, there should be a new Datasource setting to change the path for the default type files.
