Auto Updater - Slow to Download

Auto Updater - Slow to Download

avatar

Hi There!

Unsure if anyone else has this issue, but it takes about 3 minutes to download 80MB of updates each new release. I am unsure if that is a source bandwidth limitation and if it's likely this would be upgraded in the future?

We use Azure Storage (North Central US) for all our downloads. Here in North America we can download the file in less than 30 seconds.

From New Zealand, you're about the furthest away as possible. I've creating an Azure Storage test account in the South East Asia data centre. Here is the link to zip file. Can you have a try the download and tell me how long it takes.

Thanks for getting back to me. I download stuff from North America all the time at Much faster rates.

The file on the link took over 5 minutes to download, fluctuating between 200KB/s and 400KB/s

So not much faster than the north american link...

Unfortunately with Azure (unless we use CDN) there isn't much else we can do to speed up the download. Even with CDN I'm not sure it would help. Since CDN will send you to the South East Asian data center which you've already tested as slow.

This may help in the future: Microsoft: "Azure operates out of 15 regions around the world, and we’ve announced plans for 2 new regions in Australia later this year." http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/regions/
