Active Directory Synchronizer

Active Directory Synchronizer

I'm currently running 9.4.14.0 and have a couple of questions, mostly regarding the new Active Directory Synchronizer feature:

– I like the fact that RDM shows the command-line needed to manually run Synchronizer (including the GUID, etc.). I’m thinking that I can use the command line provided to run within Windows Task Scheduler and sync RDM with AD on a reoccurring schedule. Only thing is, when I copy/paste the command provided within RDM and then run the command manually from a command prompt window, I am returned to a command prompt (within the same window), and then the following text appears in the window (between the dashes below but not including the dashes):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remote Desktop Manager 9.4.14.0
Copyright (c) 2014 Devolutions inc. All rights reserved.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wait but eventually have to press CTRL-C for it to exit back to a command prompt again. It doesn’t seem to make a difference whether RDM is already running or not. Should it exit back to a command prompt once the (Synchronizer) sync process has completed?

– Given this is BETA, I'm sure that there is no documentation on how to use the Synchronizer features just yet, but I have to ask what does "Synchronize automatically" do? Does it cause RDM to sync with AD at startup, constantly, every few minutes, every hour, etc.?

– I like the fact that folders (OU's) are removed from the RDM navigation pane automatically when they are empty and no longer have session entries (I don't remember this occurring previously). But I realized that when I tried to manually delete a folder or session within RDM, I wasn't able to. When I highlight a folder or a session entry in the RDM navigation pane, and then I press the DELETE key, nothing happens. It doesn’t delete the entry (nor does it ask me whether I want to delete it). Does the DELETE key work in RDM or is it disabled? Or is it just my local settings perhaps?

Thanks

Hi,
I'm currently on vacation. I will be back Monday and I will read and analyse all your suggestions. For the delete the shortcut is Ctrl+Delete but I think you can customize it in File->Options.

Hello - hope your vacation went well. :-)

In case this slipped through the cracks, I wanted to follow up on my questions above.

Thanks

I will verify the synchronizer with the command line to see what is happening.

By default a synchronizer is executed about 30 sec after a refresh. We plan to add more settings to customize that. For the update and delete automatic; it will not be in RDM 10 but we plan to add it eventually. We are about to release the final version and it's another large step to add this.

Hi,
I've just tested the synchronizer in command line and it work well except that I'm prompt with the sync result. I will add an option to force the silenct. I suspect that in File->Options | Advanced your option "Open shortcut silent" is unchecked
