Hello Again,
I'm surprised this hasn't been corrected yet as it's been an issue for nearly a year now but anytime RDM attempts to shutdown and restart itself after installing or uninstalling an add-on it crashes. This should be easily duplicated as a fresh installation of RDM on a brand new laptop just exhibited this issue on my end.
Thank you!
Hi,
Indeed I did a fix last month exactly for that. What version do you use? I will test it again to reproduce it.
David Hervieux
Hi David,
Sorry. That would indeed be relevant information... This is version 9.4.9.0.
Do you execute RDM with the Run As Administrator?
David Hervieux
Hi David,
That indeed resolved the issue. Any chance you guys could catch the exception when not running as an admin to at least resolve the crash? No biggie either way. I'll run it in admin for now on.
Thank you!
I will try to find the problem. It's really a strange error.

Hi David,
Sorry, I jumped the gun. It just crashed when trying to uninstall the OpenVPN add-on.
Edit: Well actually it crashed after I clicked OK to restart the app.

And if I click Cancel instead and manually restart the app it works correctly. Definitely has something to do with the RDM trying to restart itself.
I will try to reproduce it with the uninstall.

Hi,
I've been able to reproduce it and I did another fix. It's included in the new beta. Let me know if it helps.

Hi David,
This problem still persists in the .12 beta. After installing an add-on and allowing RDM to auto-restart the app it crashes. Perhaps you could use the RDM built in error handler to catch this error? Currently it does not otherwise I'd send it to you.
Thanks!
Hi,
that's the problem. It doesn't crash in the .NET managed code so I can't find the error root and it's impossible to add an error handler. I will try something else.

Hi,
I completely changed the restart strategy. Hope this resolve your issue (I can't reproduce it anymore).

Hi David,
This is still happening in the .13 beta. I've attached the error from the event log in hopes they will help you track down this issue.
Is there anything I can do to help resolve this? What if the app simply exited instead of attempting to restart?
Thank you!
RDM Crash.evtx
It's normal. The new restart strategy will be in RDM 9.4.14.0. I'm about to release it this week end.
David Hervieux
Have you tried the new beta?
David Hervieux
Yep. Works like a charm now. Thank you!
That's a good news. Thank you for you help.
