I'm not sure I understand what you want about the task bar? For the VPN, I'm already planning to add a VPN connection type.

In past versions when you start the program you were able to instruct (options) the app to minimize to task bar. While this option is still there when it minimizes it is also in the program bar as a minimized app. This did not happen in previous versions

I unable to reproduce but there is an option "Always show in taskbar", maybe you have this checked, it's in the UI options ? It's unchecked by default.

No it is checked, I've tried unchecking and restarting to no avail. I think I'm going to try reinstalling app. I'll net you know the results

I am having the same issue, the program use to minimize to the tray icon only but now it shows up in both the tray icon and the taskbar. I have tried all the options and it still shows up in the taskbar.
I would like for it to just be in the tray icon area like it use to be, any ideas what might be happening?

I just want to be sure, when the application is minimized, does it disapear from the taskbar? Can you send me (support@devolutions.net) your config file, it's remotedesktopmanager.cfg ?

Just make sure that the Option "Always show in taskbar" is unchecked.
