RDM v9.2.6.0 (but this has happened with all recent versions)
Every now and again, but several times a day at least, when I click on an item in an RDP window within RDM, another window (on my computer) somewhere behind where I click on the screen will suddenly pop to the front. Or it could be the RDM window is being pushed back, I really can't tell which it is.
Does anyone else experience this?
Hi,
Could you post a small video. I've never seen this internally.
David Hervieux
Not sure that I can, it happens maybe once an hour or two. I've not been able to predict when it may happen; it seems pretty random but does happen often enough where it's very annoying when it does, so kind of hard to catch, but I'll see what I can do.
I have a two monitor setup so I'm trying to see if running RDM on its own screen with no other windows behind or in front of it cause it not to occur, as it does seem to be it's always a window underneath the mouse cursor (but behind the RDM window) when the click occurs.
If no one else is experiencing it, though, it's probably something specific with my workstation, such as another program that's running at the same time, like a mouse utility or something.
FYI, I'm running the Enterprise version, in case that makes any difference...
Now you mention this I've seen this behaviour since a couple of days (at least). First I thought I clicked just outside the window but last weekend I had to use RDM intensively and it happened several times also when RDM was full screen and I wasn't near the edge of the screen.
It happens once a while and I can't reproduce it so I hope OldLost is able to create a video like you ask.
I managed to capture a video of this happening. The video's about 30 seconds long. At the 21 second mark I click on the start button of the remote desktop, at which point the OneNote program I have running behind the RDM window suddenly pops to the front of the screen. I've attached the video (AVI) file as a zip file to save space.
RDMpopup.zip
Hi Dale,
I've watched the video and I have no idea what could cause that. I thought it was the opposite: RDM going in front but it's clearly not the case. Is it always OneNote that popup in front?
David Hervieux
It's not always OneNote. It could be any program, as long as it's window is behind RDM's window, and directly below where the mouse is clicked.
Do you have any macro configured in the application? I did a search in the code and the only place where we focus the previous windows it's when we execute a macro in the previous windows.
David Hervieux
Nope. Macro/Script List is totally empty.
Hi,
i know this is an Old Post but are there any News on that? We have the same Issue
RDM Open with RDP Sessions and Random Clicks to the Window behind (4-7Times a week) so that the Windows Jumps into the front
it does not Depend on the Application behind
we have reports from 2 different Offices working completely different, also Different Active Directorys and Group Policy's
Versions 2020.1.20.0 and 2020.2.15.0
Hello,
This has been a problem really hard to reproduce. Few weeks ago I've found a pattern to reproduce exactly this problem and this was related to the wait progress that sometime appear in RDM. I've made a fix and you can try the latest version 2020.2.17.0 if you want or disable the wait progress in File->Options.

David Hervieux
thank you that was a fast response
we will try the Workaround first with some Users, is there a way to force this Issue? for us this still looks random
This was not possible to reproduce on all the computer but here are my steps:
To reproduce you can easely do by doing the following steps
1- Have any window on the same screen than RDM, (Chrome) (notepad)
2- Take focus back on RDM pop the ribbon menu when it is unpinned and click on Copy in the home section.
By the way, my ribbon was not pinned
David Hervieux
I can also confirm that the fix is in RDM 2020.2.16

i still have the Issue, workaround did not work for me and also the Update made no Difference
Hello Florian,
Thank you for reaching back to us on that matter!
That being said, would it be possible for you to create a portable version of RDM and see if this issue still occurs?
To do so, you will need to do the following:
1- Download the .zip file below:
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager64.exe
5- Enter your current serial
Best regards,
James Lafleur
ok Still got the same Problem just now
the click goes directly to the Window behind
Hello Florian,
Thank you for performing this test!
Since the portable version of RDM did not work for you, would it be possible for you to go under Help -> Submit a support ticket to open a case with us? Through this ticket, we will be able to perform more tests and see what might be causing this. Once a cause for this issue has been found, I will update this forum thread as well.
Just make sure to add the URL of this forum in the description of your ticket. That way, I will be able to assign it directly to me.
Best regards,
James Lafleur
