6.1.2 visual changes

Since the 6.1.2 update and now on 6.1.3.0 update the icons before the elements (computers, etc) on the left hand side view are vertically larger than the text of the name of the item. This has caused me to see less of the items in my list and now has created 3 pages of scrollable elements to view. I believe the icons were there before in 6 but something in that look/feel change has created a lot of white space.
Is there any way to change the look/feel to get back to that more compact view of the items and reduce the vertical whitespace?
