First off I would like to say that Remote Desktop Manager is a great piece of software. I have the standard edition version 9.1.4.0, running on Windows 7 Enterprise and it does nearly everything required. The one thing that has caused me trouble is the shutdown session addon tool. Whenever I try to use it to shutdown or restart a computer remotely an error message pops up saying it is unable to execute the command (see screenshot). Shutting down the antivirus software (McAfee Enterprise Edition) hasn't helped. The problem doesn't seem to be confined to one operating system as the issue has cropped up when interacting with computers running both Linux and Windows 7 Enterprise. Also logging in as the elevated administrator on my computer has not helped. Everything else seems to be running fine.

Hi,
We invoke shutdown.exe. Could it be possible that your user does not have an access to the machine with the network?

You can try it in a command line box.

Could you verify if you have set the administrator credentials in the Tools tab page of the session.
David Hervieux
Shutdown.exe worked on the Windows 7 machine and I'd previously used the Linux shutdown command another computer. However I do not see any field called administrator credentials on the tools tab or anywhere else.
It's the username and password in the Tools section. It's not specifically an aministrator field. We don't support the linux shutdown for now. Do you have a specific application for that?
David Hervieux
Well when I go to the properties window for the session (the one where you can enter information about the computer you're working with) and tools everything is greyed out since I have the standard edition. In case this is the wrong place to look I've included a screenshot. Also when I go to remote shutdown under the tools tab of the navigation menu and try to shutdown/restart that way nothing happens. I enter the computer name and a comment ... and nothing. The same is not true if I use shutdown -i through Windows.

Could you request a trial and give it a try?
David Hervieux
Well I installed a trial on another machine and entered the admin credentials under the tools tab. The problem still recurred. Could this be a network issue with the packets not being forwarded to the computer?
If so then the problem just took on a new dimension. Our campus IT people are in the process of putting a number of computers on a separate VLAN which is segmented from the main network. The firewall is set to allow things in, but not out. However I am unable to connect to the two Windows 7 machines which are now on that network using RDM. Remote Desktop through windows itself works, but not RDM. Ping attempts error out with the message "DNS error unable to resolve hostname". The linux server on that network connects fine via SSH. The problem can't be related to the on in my first post, but may be a complicating factor.
