Request for SecureFX Add-on

avatar

SecureFX is the (S)FTP/SCP file transfer application offered by VanDyke Software, the same company that makes SecureCRT. It shouldn’t be difficult to create an add-on as SecureFX uses the same session INI files as SecureCRT.

Why use SecureFX? If you use SecureCRT it saves you an enormous amount of time by using the existing SecureCRT sessions and host keys.

Hi,
I added a feature request for that. Thank you very much.

While having a SecureFX Add-on will be helpful, it means for every existing RDM SecureCRT (or other terminal emulator) session another will exist for SecureFX, therefore doubling the RDM sessions! I already have 200+ RDM SecureCRT sessions, I can't imagine adding or seeing another 200+.

So, in addition to the SecureFX Add-on could we modify the existing SecureCRT Add-on to include SecureFX as well? I’ll explain…
When you right-click the RDM SecureCRT session, select Open, the sub-menu would display SecureFX as an option (provided its installed).

This would be far more useful.

Hi,
I see what you mean, I added a note in the feature request.

Sorry, I was unaware in RDM 6 that you can 'Add By Session Type' which creates a sub-session. Therefore, I just need the SecureFX Add-on created and listed under the 'Remote Connections' sub-menu under 'Add By Session Type'.

Hi,
It's on our todo list. I hope to release it soon.

I posted the following in the 'Feature Request' section originally, but it is still SecureCRT/FX related.

I'd like to request several revisions to the SecureFX Add-on.
FYI, most of these have been added or requested for the SecureCRT Add-on as well.

01. Add option to choose location of the 'Session' folder: 'Local Session' or 'Shared Session' (known as the ‘Configuration folder’)

02. When clicking between 'Local Session' and 'Shared Session' the current 'Session name' should clear as the pull-down menu sessions may be different.

03. Increase the horizontal length (similar to the 'Shared 'config' folder' field) of the 'Session name' pull-down menu and add a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom as well.

04. For the search option 'Include Host' find/grep for ‘S:"Hostname"=<Hostname, FQDN or IP Address>’ within the INI file

05. Add an auto fill feature:

Under 'File -> Options -> Installation Path tab' add a field to specify the 'Shared Session Default path'. So when a new SecureFX Session is added, the 'Shared 'config' folder' is auto filled (but can be edited) with the 'Default path' value. This is a huge time saver.

06. Is there any way to add a report comparing a list of RDM SecureFX Sessions to a list of INI files listed in the Shared Session folder, so we know if any are missing?

07. When deleting a SecureFX Session, could you add the option to delete the corresponding INI file? Obviously, a users account privileges may not allow the INI file to be deleted.

Hi,

Could you test those new DLL please ?
I did some tests but I don't have a real environment.

This is the list of what has been done.

01. Add option to choose location of the 'Session' folder: 'Local Session' or 'Shared Session' (known as the ‘Configuration folder’)
Done

02. When clicking between 'Local Session' and 'Shared Session' the current 'Session name' should clear as the pull-down menu sessions may be different.
Done

03. Increase the horizontal length (similar to the 'Shared 'config' folder' field) of the 'Session name' pull-down menu and add a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom as well.
Done (a new form is called)

04. For the search option 'Include Host' find/grep for ‘S:"Hostname"=<Hostname, FQDN or IP Address>’ within the INI file
Done

This feature already exists using templates. Watch this tutorial.

06. Is there any way to add a report comparing a list of RDM SecureFX Sessions to a list of INI files listed in the Shared Session folder, so we know if any are missing?
Not done yet but it has been added to the wish list.

07. When deleting a SecureFX Session, could you add the option to delete the corresponding INI file? Obviously, a users account privileges may not allow the INI file to be deleted.
Not done yet but it has been added to the wish list.

Excellent, the 'new form' solves the horizontal and vertical issues.

I'd like to request these final revisions for the SecureCRT Add-on.

01. Remove the 'Type' pull-down menu to match the SecureFX Add-on.

02. Line up the 'Shared 'config' folder' field with the 'Session name' field (it’s a little shorter) to match the SecureFX Add-on.

03. Allow a final backslash '\' in the 'Shared 'config' folder' directory path, otherwise error message '/F requires additional parameters' appears.

04. Swap the location of the 'Cancel' and 'OK' buttons in the 'new form' to match other forms.

05. If you modify the 'Shared 'config' folder' field the 'Session name' field should clear immediately.

I'd like to request these final revisions for the SecureFX Add-on.

01. Allow a final backslash '\' in the 'Shared 'config' folder' directory path, otherwise error message 'Copying local files is not supported.' appears.

02. Swap the location of the 'Cancel' and 'OK' buttons in the 'new form' to match other forms.

03. Add the 'New tab' check box (default checked) to match the SecureCRT Add-on.

04. If you modify the 'Shared 'config' folder' field the 'Session name' field should clear immediately.

The more similar the Add-ons look the better.

Hi,

Would you make a final test with those two new dll please.
Everything that you asked for is done.

Thank you for completing all the suggested revisions.

The SecureCRT Add-on works perfectly. Unfortunately the SecureFX Add-on does not, while SecureFX launches it only displays the 'Connect' menu and the 'New tab' option is ignored as each SecureFX RDM session opens a new SecureFX process?

Hi,

Does SecureFX works if the 'New tab' option is not checked ?

Thanks

Correct!

Hi,

Sorry but it appears that the 'new tab' option is not available for SecureFX.
I will remove this option shortly.

Thank you, I've confirmed with VanDyke Software that the feature will be added to SecureFX in the near future.

Hi,

Perfect, then i will simply make this feature invisible until it will be done.

I'd like to modify one of my previous requests for both the SecureCRT and SecureFX Add-ons.

'If you modify the 'Shared 'config' folder' field the 'Session name' field should clear immediately.'

Unfortunately when we copy and paste the ‘Shared 'config' folder' field the ‘Session’ field clears if you click ‘OK’. It should only clear if the ‘Shared 'config' folder' field is modified or when clicking between 'Local Session' and 'Shared Session'.

Any updates?

Yes!

I just finished putting new versions online.
New version of SecureCRT and SecureFX are available on the website or in the AddOnManager.
