.net breaking when UVNC is used

.net breaking when UVNC is used

avatar

Hello,

Recently I been attempting to setup a new host using UVNC.
Logmein is pulling their free version so I need to use something else that will allow me to connect to the console (which is a requirement for the application to run).
And i just bought RDM since it worked so well with Logmein -_-

Any way, Using the UVNC viewer I can connect just fine but of course I want it embedded in RDM.

But then the vage errors came. (I was hoping to find a list of error messages and what they meant but no such luck)
Eventually I found that when not loading the .DSM plugin connected just fine so it was not liking that.
Since it was a 64 bit plugin which didnt come with RDM I wanted to try the 32 bit version that does come with RDM.

So after reinstalling the 32 bit version of the server I went to connect, but instead of working RDM just has a brainfart.
Now when ever UVNC is used it throws a .net error.
Real vnc doesnt seem to suffer the .net problem but it doesn't seem to like the UVNC server.

I tried the obvious solutions like repairing the instalation of RDM.

RDM 9.0.12 (64 bit)
.net v2.0.50727

So here is the error. I hope some one can give me some pointers to getting this sorted.
Preferably before the end of the week when Logmein quits working.

Oh I see it ate all the line breaks in the error message.
Sorry about that.

Hi,
This is a strange error. Could you try to install RDM in another folder like C:\RDM and use the 32 bit version of it.

Uninstalling and installing it in another location got it working again.
Well UVNC doesn't cause the error any more.
It still wont connect but must be in the settings, it is still not happy with the encryption.
but even when using a *.vnc file it wont work where as UVNC viewer does work with the same file.

Odd that it would get messed up like that.

But hey thx for the help.

I will now go an pull some more hair out trying to get UVNC to work with encryption.

Ok got it working.

So what was the issue?
The version of the DSM plugin is different between the UVNC server and RDM.
So make them the same right? well when you put the newer .DSM plugin into RDM it dies in a hail of error.
But putting the .DSM file from RDM into the UVNC server fixes this as UVNC can work with the older version.

But when it comes to security I would rather not use dated software.
Pritty pritty please have a look at the most recent version of SecureVNC here http://adamwalling.com/SecureVNC/
and see if RDM can be made to work with it.

I am looking forward to the update ;)

Thank in advance

Hi,
I have entered a feature request for that but it's not really simple. UltraVNC does not offer any ActiveX to do the integration. We need to repackage it and wrap it.

I will verify with the consultant that we used if he can do something for that.

Ok thank you for checking and putting it on there.
I will have to be patient.

By the way the ActiveX has been updated.
