I'm running Remote Desktop Manager version 9.0.12.0 on a Windows 8 Pro machine and anytime I load an embedded RDP session it is extremely slow to respond. The session loads fine, but once I get logged into the machine, it is becomes unresponsive. In extreme cases, it takes sometimes full minutes for mouse clicks or keyboard entries to register and applications to load. The problem seems to be specific to embedded Microsoft RDP sessions and it doesn't matter if the machine is physical or virtual. If I load the session in an external window, it works just fine.
I've read some other entries and help articles about this but none of the solutions seem to work. I've checked the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in the Compatibility menu for both the 32 and 64 bit applications. I've tried to load the older classic UI and setting my screen resolution to a lower setting. I've also tried changing various settings on my graphics card, but nothing seems to work.
I'm eager to hear from you. This is driving me crazy.
Thanks,
Phil Shondell
Hi,
Could you try to change the Local resources and uncheck all the settings here for test including an hard drive.
David Hervieux
This did not work. I did not notice any change, neither better nor worse.
Could you try RDCMan to see if it's related to the RDP ActiveX we use exactly the same technology.
David Hervieux
RDCMan was also unresponsive.
This is really strange. Do you have the RDP 8.1 update installed?
David Hervieux
Yes, I do have that update installed. I ran an SFC and it looks like I may have some corrupt system files. I'm going to do a repair and see if that fixes anything. I'll let you know how it works out.

Me too, I am having this exact same issue. I have been using Remote Desktop Manager for a long time and it worked fine. I recently upgraded to w8.1 - I think that's doing it. Now it gets so slow in embedded view...
Waiting for a fix,
Ken
Hi Ken,
Do you use the RDM 32 bit or 64?
David Hervieux
Hi David,
I don't know - I do I fine out?
Thanks,
Ken
You can check in the about box
David Hervieux
Sorry, I must be blind. I don't see anything saying 32 bit or 64 bit in the Remote Desktop Manager about box.
Its Version 9.1.0.0
My Windows is 64 bit
Ken
Could you try to run RDM from the installation folder, you will see both version?
David Hervieux
Ok, changed my shortcut to run the 64 bit version. About shows it as the 64-bit version now. It didn't make a difference, still a big delay clicking and typing and everything.
Thanks,
Ken
It took me a little while, but after I rebuilt my PC, RDM was the first thing I installed. It is responding so much better now. I'm still not sure what the problem was though.
@Ken,
Could you try RDCMan from Microsoft with the same configuration? We use the same ActiveX.
David Hervieux
Hello David,
I am not sure RDCMan works with W8.1. I installed it, but options are grayed out - like Add Server. Maybe I don't know how to use it, but it seems there is no way to connect to a VM.
It looks like it isn't compatible with w8.1 - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b246fd8e-7339-4c87-8b7b-3362c7324c75/remote-desktop-connection-manager-22-problems-in-win-81?forum=w81previtpro
Thanks,
Ken
Never mind, I figured it out, testing now
It's doing the same thing - delay in typing and everything
Could you try to use the Run As Administrator to see if it makes a difference
David Hervieux
I've found this thread with some solutions about the auto tuning:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/e862b4a9-0613-4054-9e4f-ce7ee99ebec9/windows-8-slow-doing-rdp?forum=w8itprogeneral
David Hervieux
Could you verify if you machine is up to date. I've found this update
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2883200
David Hervieux
Something I just did fixed it. The fix wasn't immediate, so I am not sure. I think it was
netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled
I disabled my anti-virtual, but I am still good and I turned it back on. I hadn't looked the GPO change yet. The firewall was already off, and log on as administrator didn't do anything.
I will work with it, and if I start having the issue again, I will repost.
Thanks David
As it turned out, it is my antivirus. When it starts getting slow, I exit my anti-virus, and shortly thereafter the speed it back.
ken
Thank you for the the information. What Anti-Virus do you use?
David Hervieux
I actually just figured out that it is my antivirus as well. We use Trend Micro Business Security.
Could you exclude RDM from the application list?
David Hervieux
We are using Trend Micro Business Security too. I just added pccntmon.exe to the process exception list. I will let you know what happens.
No that was wrong - stupid me. Let me try adding RemoteDesktopManager.exe to the process exception list. I will let you know.
I added RemoteDesktopManager.exe, RemoteDesktopManager64.exe, and Embedded32.exe to the Process Exception List under Preferences>Global Settings and updated my Trend client. That fixed the problem virtually immediately.
Excellent. We will add this in our troubleshooting section
