v6 crash on startup

Hello all,

I upgraded from v5 to v6 and now whenever I try to start remote desktop manager it just crashes. v5 worked like a charm and I tried uninstalling 6 and going back to 5 and now v5 crashes.

this is the event viewer report from v6 after uninstalling v5 and putting v6 back in, any ideas?:

Hi,
I have no explanation. but it's seems to be a .NET crash. What Os do you have? Can you try to do a .NET repair. If you installed a Windows update, I saw that many times. You can try to install it in another folder also.

Hello David,

I tried installing v6 in c:\devolutions and still crashed. I remember awhile ago that I lost my sessions/credentials and there was a temporary fix to point to the database file. If I remember I did this fix: http://forum.devolutions.net/topic864-all-connections-gone-.aspx.

Is this information stored in the registry somewhere or does rdm look for certain files before creating them? I deleted the devolutions install folder under program files x86 before each install.

I am using windows 7, enterprise, 64 bit, no SP1.

This program is an absolute must.

Thank you,

Hi,
We don't store anything in the registry, can you try to run the application as Administrator? Does RDM show an error message or it's only a Windows Message?

Can you try to download it again, just to be sure that it's not corrupted.

Hello David,

First thing I tried. no luck. Is there a debug mode or verbose mode?

just a windows error.

The problem is here, it's not crashing in the application (I have an global handler), it's crashing before, when the .NET Framework is initialized. Can you try a version 5.6 just for fun:

Maybe you can try a .Net Framework repair?

Hello David,

I think my windows is messed up. tried to install windows 7 SP1 and it crashed. Something is messed up with my .net assemblies or something. You can close this bug. Will scour the net to see if i can repair the .net assemblies or am I looking at doing a full install again.

Thank you for your great support!

Hello David, After 3 days of windows 7 sp1 crashing my system and restoring and repairing I finally am pleased to announce that I have remote desktop manager 6 running! FM

Cool, but what have you done to make it works?

Hello David, I had to uninstall all of the language packs for Windows and then SP1 installed correctly and then drm v5.6 started working. I then upgraded to v6 and all is well. FM
